HHS Track wins six events during Union Open meet

Six days removed from their season-opening meet at Montgomery County High School, Tony Terry Jr.’s Hermann High School (HHS) track squads competed last Monday night in the Union Open at Union High School’s E.A. Stierberger Stadium.

Ryker Ash claimed the boys 300m hurdles for Hermann with a winning time of 44.66 while the Bearcat 4x200m relay team of Colin Nunnally, Tayven Hopkins, Roman Martin and Ash posted a winning time of 1:39.46.

Hopkins also led three Bearcats in the top six of the boys high jump winning the event with a clearing height of 1.85m.

Ashton Rucker also placed third clearing 1.80m while Holden Schales took sixth clearing 1.35m.

Nunnally also won the boys triple jump for the Bearcats with a leap of 12.79m while Martin (4th, 11.82m), Gavyn Theissen (5th, 11.08m and Ethan Chorley (10th, 8.85m) also placed in the top 10 of the event for the Bearcats.

In the process of winning the boys triple jump, Nunnally broke the school record previously held by Conner Coffey.

Sawyer Moore (23rd, 13.13) and CJ Mires (30th, 13.92) sprinted down the track for the Bearcats in the boys 100m dash.

Chase Branson (2nd, 2:25.14) and Chorley (4th, 2:30.81) posted top-four times for Hermann in the boys 800m run.

Sprinting to a fourth-place time of 53.92 in the boys 4x100m relay for Hermann was the team of Layne Bader, Sawyer Moore, Chorley and Schales.

Bader also placed eighth in the boys shot put with a throw of 9.57m.

Victor Loaiza (10th, 9.35m), Spencer Head (19th, 7.68m) and Quentin Struttmann (20th, 6.90m) also threw the shot put for Hermann’s Bearcats.

Head (6th, 28.18m), Bader (13th, 22.62m) and Elliot Geers (15th, 22.50m) competed in the boys discus for Hermann.

Mires placed third in the boys pole vault clearing 2.43m.

Brooklyn McCurdy led three Lady Bearcats in the girls 100m dash with an eighth-place time of 14.26.

Addison Hopper (17th, 15.36) and Callie Borzillo (23rd, 16.01) also sprinted down the track for the Lady Bearcats in the 100m dash.

Erika Schutt placed fourth in the girls 800m run with a time of 2:49.59 while Elaina Uthlaut placed ninth in a time of 3:06.53.

Grace Engemann (7th, 7:06.74) and Eileen Swofford (9th, 7:14.43) posted top-10 times in the girls 1600m run for Hermann.

Taya Thurman posted a fifth-place time of 1:02.13 in the girls 300m hurdles for the Lady Bearcats.

Sprinting to a third-place time of 1:00.42 in the girls 4x100m relay was the Lady Bearcat quartet of Adlee Labruyere, Heidi Brinker, Kenzi Bruno and Ashlyn Hughes.

Also taking third for Hermann in the girls 4x200m relay with a time of 2:10.07 was the foursome of Tenley McFadden, Olivia Heying, Bruno and Erika Schutt.

Two Lady Bearcat 4x400m relay teams placed third and fourth respectively in the event led by the team of Fynnlee Riffle, Morgan Penning, Schutt and Uthlaut’s third-place time of 4:58.02.

Taking fourth in 5:08.74 was the Lady Bearcat 4x400m relay team of Taylor Carver, Brylie Haver, Makayla Nicholson and McFadden.

Placing third in the girls 4x800m relay for Hermann in 13:11.51 was the team of Nevaeh Bentley, Riffle, Engemann and Swofford.

Faith Gabathuler placed second for Hermann in the girls shot put with a throw of 10.30m.

Also throwing in the top 10 for the Lady Bearcats in the girls shot put were Alivia Witthaus (6th, 8.31m), Alaina Powers (7th, 7.92m), Katelyn Krueger (9th, 7.78m) and Delaney Williams (10th, 7.43m).

Allison Brown (12th, 6.68m), Whitney Curtis (16th, 5.75m) and Victoria Van Booven (20th, 5.25m) also threw for Hermann in the girls shot put.

Powers won the girls discus with a throw of 32.50m followed in the top six by Gabathuler (3rd, 27.47m), Williams (4th, 23.58m), Hughes (5th, 23.54m) and Hughes (6th, 23.14m).

Hughes placed second for Hermann in the girls javelin with a throw of 29.07m followed by Witthaus (3rd, 27.93m), Brown (25.10m) and Van Booven (7th, 23.61m).

Jillian Fredrick placed fifth in the girls high jump clearing 1.35m while Labruyere won the girls triple jump with a leap of 9.40m.

Lady Bearcats placing behind Labruyere in the girls triple jump included McFadden (3rd, 9.37m), Krystal Strubberg (4th, 8.85m), Nicholson (7th, 7.82m) and Sydney Englert (8th, 7.42m).
