ST. CLAIR — Scoring 43 points in St. Clair 8th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament victories over Union and Owensville, Todd Anderson’s Hermann Middle School (HMS) 8th grade Bearcats earned a spot in the championship game opposite the host St. Clair Bulldogs.
Leading 15-10 after one quarter, Hermann outscored the Bulldogs 12-3 in the second quarter giving them a double-digit halftime lead by a score of 27-13.
Holding St. Clair to single digits in the third quarter, Hermann was able to pull away in the second half to eventually capture a tournament title with a 50-29 victory.
Miles Eikermann led the Bearcats with 14 points followed by Will Schutt who also reached double figures with 11 points.
Cale Lampkin nearly made it three Bearcats in double figures finishing with nine points.
Nathan McDaris added five of his seven points in the second quarter while Lane Bristow scored all five of his points in the first half.
Laramie Bristow added a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Caleb Pohlmann rounded out Hermann’s scoring with one point on a third-quarter free throw.
Hermann vs. Owensville
Turning back Union 43-30 in first-round action at St. Clair last Wednesday night, Hermann earned a rematch with Owensville’s Dutchmen in semifinal action.
Down 8-6 after one quarter, the Bearcats doubled up the Dutchmen 16-8 in the second quarter giving them a 22-16 halftime lead.
Again doubling up Owensville 10-5 in the third quarter, Hermann went on to hand the Dutchmen a 43-28 loss advancing them to the St. Clair Tournament title game.
Schutt called blackjack for the Bearcats finishing with 21 points while Eikermann was close behind him with 20 points.
Lane Bristow capped Hermann’s scoring against Owensville with two points.
Trace Lange led the Dutchmen with seven points.
Hermann vs. Union
Finally able to start the St. Clair 8th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament last Wednesday night due to a weather delay by Winter Storm Fern, Anderson’s Bearcats took on Union’s Wildcats.
Racing out to a 12-2 lead after one quarter, Hermann enjoyed their biggest lead at 34-17 after three quarters before going on to a 43-30 victory.
McDaris led the Bearcats with 12 points followed closely in double figures by Schutt with 11 points.
Eikermann narrowly missed making it three Hermann players in double digits finishing with nine points.
Lampkin scored all seven of his points in the first half while Laramie Bristow added two points.
Hermann 7th at Sullivan
Dropping a 40-15 decision against Washington in the first round of the Sullivan 7th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament, Hermann’s Bearcats coached by Dylan Walker looked to advance to the consolation championship game against Owensville Friday night with a victory over Sullivan.
Trailing 13-7 after one quarter, Hermann nearly went two quarters without a point before seeing their season end following a 27-13 loss to the host Eagles.
Mason Roche led Hermann with seven points followed by the trio of Jaxon Kallmeyer, Bentley Kolks and Caleb Overkamp with two points apiece.
First-round action last Wednesday against Washington saw the Bearcats unable to overcome scoring only two first-half points before falling 40-15.
Frankie Dildine and Kallmeyer each led the seventh-grade Bearcats with five points while Landon Wilson and Calen Morgan each scored two points.
