Last week marked season-opening action for Dylan Walker’s Hermann 7th grade Bearcat and Todd Anderson’s Hermann 8th grade Bearcat basketball teams in respective tournament action at St. James for Walker and Union for Anderson.
Over in Union, Anderson’s eighth-grade Bearcats defeated Sullivan last Tuesday 44-32 in first-round action before falling to eventual tournament champion Washington 39-28 in the semifinals.
This sent the Bearcats into the third-place game Friday night against Pacific’s Indians.
Leading 25-13 at halftime, Hermann outscored the Indians 21-10 in the second half helping them claim third-place hardware from Union following a 46-23 victory.
Will Schutt led the Bearcats with 21 points to go along with Miles Eikermann who also reached double figures with 10 points.
Caleb Pohlmann and Nathaniel McDaris each added five points for the Bearcats while Cale Lampkin scored all three of his points in the first half.
Laramie Bristow rounded out Hermann’s scoring against Pacific with a fourth-quarter basket for two points.
Owen Herman led Pacific with 10 points.
Bearcats vs. Washington
Tied at 8-8 after one quarter, Hermann 22-14 at halftime against the Blue Jays before coming up on the short end of a 39-28 final score.
Eikermann led the Bearcats with 15 points to go along with five markers apiece from Lane Bristow and Schutt.
Lampkin added a first-quarter basket for two points while Pohlmann hit a third-quarter free throw for one point to round out the scoring for Hermann against Washington.
Nathan Francis led the Blue Jays with 13 points.
Bearcats vs. Sullivan
Opening Union Tournament action against Sullivan’s Eagles, Hermann trailed 16-15 at halftime before blitzing the black and gold 29-16 in the second half of their 44-32 first-round victory.
Eikermann called blackjack scoring 15 of his game-high 21 points in the second half while Schutt also finished in double figures with 19 points.
Nathan McDaris rounded out the Bearcat scoring with four points.
Jackson Davis paced Sullivan in the scoring column with 10 points.
Down in St. James, Walker’s seventh-grade Bearcats opened their tournament with a 32-15 first-round loss against Licking before falling 30-17 in the consolation semifinals against Salem ending their bid for hardware.
In spite of being held scoreless in the first quarter against Salem, Hermann managed to go into halftime trailing by single digits 13-4.
Still within single digits trailing 22-13 after three quarters, the Bearcats were outscored 8-4 in the final six minutes before ending their tournament run in St. James.
Jaxon Kallmeyer led the Bearcats scoring all seven of his points in the third quarter.
He was followed with two points each from the Hermann quintet of Mason Rocne, Franklin Dildine, Landon Wilson, Bentley Kolks and Matthew Tallent.
Kentley LaJoie led Salem with 12 points.
Bearcats vs. Licking
Unable to overcome a five-point first half, Hermann dropped a 32-15 decision against Licking’s Wildcats in first-round action at St. James.
Rocne paced Hermann with seven points followed closely with six markers from Wilson.
John Friend led Licking with 16 points.
