HMS Bearcats split daytime twin bill with Washington

Playing in front of the entire student body last Thursday afternoon, Hermann Middle School (HMS) Bearcat basketball teams coached by Dylan Walker and Todd Anderson welcomed Washington’s Blue Jays to HMS for the annual daytime boys basketball doubleheader between the two schools.

Seeing Hermann fall 31-16 in seventh-grade action, Anderson’s eighth-grade Bearcats looked to split the doubleheader with a victory in their contest over their Highway 100 rivals to the east.

Trailing 10-7 after one quarter, Hermann was down 13-9 before Miles Eikermann scored Hermann’s last seven points of the first half helping them to an 18-13 halftime lead.

Continuing his hot play in the second half, Eikermann scored 18 of Hermann’s 23 second-half points helping the Bearcats take the eighth-grade game 41-32.

Up 31-24 entering the fourth quarter, a Nate McDaris bucket and a Lane Bristow free throw paved the way for Eikermann to hit seven of his eight free-throw attempts during the final six minutes of Hermann’s victory giving them Highway 100 hoops bragging rights.

Eikermann led the Bearcats and all scorers with 29 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.

McDaris and Lane Bristow each added four points while Chris Groner and Cale Lampkin rounded out Hermann’s scoring with two points apiece.

Nathan Francis led Washington with eight points, 13 rebounds and two assists.

Leading 5-0 at the 4:10 mark of the first quarter in seventh-grade action, Hermann saw Washington end the first half on an 18-3 run before ending up on the wrong side of a 31-16 final score.

Frankie Dildine led Hermann’s seventh graders with seven points and 11 rebounds while Mason Roche added five points and three rebounds.

Jaxon Kallmeyer and Evan Presti rounded out Hermann’s scoring with two points apiece.

Bentley Kolks also blocked a game-high three shots for the Bearcats.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Hermann is scheduled to end their respective seasons in 7th grade tournament action in Sullivan and 8th grade tournament play in St. Clair.
