If the past season of Hermann Middle School (HMS) track and field is any indication, a bright future is ahead for Tony Terry Jr.’s Bearcats and Lady Bearcats.
Throughout their recently competed spring season, a total of four school records were either established or broken.
Competing for the first time in school history in the 4x100-meter throwers relay, both the HMS Bearcats and Lady Bearcats established new school records in the event at the Owensville Middle School (OMS) Relays.
Sprinting to a time of 1:02.31 was the Bearcat 4x100m throwers relay team of Demetrius Matech, Caleb Pohlmann, Ben Rost and Logan Tyree.
Posting a time of 1:06.12 was the Lady Bearcat 4x100m throwers relay team of Khloe Cuellar, Kyah Humphrey, Kapri Bruno and Nora Leeper.
Lane Bristow also set a new HMS school record in the boys high jump clearing 1.60m at New Haven breaking the old record of 1.57m held by Trent Oberg from back in 2014 at the HMS Relays.
Staying in field events, Kennedy Schwenck set a new HMS record in the girls triple jump with a leap of 9.66m surpassing the previous record mark of 9.39m from Megan Gerloff at the 2017 South Callaway Middle School Relays.
Harper Stiers sprinted her way into the top 10 of the HMS girls 100m dash with a time of 14.16 from the HMS Open track meet good for seventh all time.
Brianna Thomas holds the current record of 12.80 from the 2016 HMS Invitational.
Adding to her school record in the triple jump, Schwenck also posted the third-fastest time in the girl 400m dash with a time of 1:06.89 from the St. James MS Invitational.
Thomas also hold the HMS girls 400m dash record with a time of 1:03.79 from the 2016 Union Relays.
Raelynn Kleinheider narrowly snuck into the top 10 with a time of 2:57.01 in the girls 800m run from the Owensville MS Open.
Karinne Lane is the current HMS record holder in the girls 800m run with a time of 2:34.5 from the 2009 Pacific Invitational.
Elana Towery became the fourth HMS Lady Bearcat to break 20 seconds in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 19.80 from a meet at New Haven putting her fourth all time.
Quincy Erickson currently holds the HMS girls 100m hurdles record with a time of 18.69 from the 2016 South Callaway MS Relays.
HMS’ Lady Bearcats nearly had another broken record in the girls 4x400m relay.
Posting a time of 4:53.74 at the HMS Relays was the team of Camber Rohlfing, Towery, Stiers and Schwenck.
Eight years earlier at the 2018 Union MS Relays, the team of Iteara Christian, Quin Winkelmann, Reese Groner and Madison Dixon ran the current record time of 4:48.87 in the girls 4x400m relay.
Posting the seventh-fastest time for Hermann in the girls 4x800m relay was the team of Ellison Calvert, Kylie VandeVoorde, Natalie Englert and Humphrey in 13:33.12 at New Haven.
Setting the record at the 2019 OMS Relays was the HMS Lady Bearcat foursome of Katy Menke, Amelia Uthlaut, Alaina Worland and Holly Heldt in a time of 11:40.16.
Mackenzie Bader threw her way into the top 10 of the HMS girls shot put with a mark of 8.79m from the HMS Relays good for ninth place.
Faith Gabathuler has the current record with a toss of 11.10m from the 2022 HMS Relays.
Emmerson Binkholder nearly became the fifth HMS Bearcat to break the one-minute mark in the boys 400m dash with a time of 1:00.88 at the HMS Relays.
His time was good for fifth place in school history while Boyd Philips’ time of 57.78 from the 2016 Linn Jr. High Invitational is the current record.
Landon Wilson raced his way into the top 10 of the boys 800m run with a time of 2:30.72 from the rainy meet at New Haven good for ninth place.
Former Bearcat and Columbia College standout Grant Uthlaut is the current record holder in the event with a time of 2:17.0 from the 2012 Pacific Relays.
Posting the sixth-fastest time in the boys 4x200m relay for HMS was the team of Blake Engemann, Bentley Kolks, Logan Tyree and Binkholder from the St. James MS Invitational with a time of 1:52.22.
Currently holding the record of 1:46.30 is the HMS Bearcat 4x200m relay foursome of Jackson Chasteen, Parker Anderson, Clayton Walkenbach and Conner Coffey from the 2019 HMS Relays.
Coming within four seconds of the HMS school record in the boys 4x400m relay was the Bearcat foursome of Mason Roche, Engemann, Kolks and Binkholder with a time of 4:21.73 putting them third all time.
Holding the record from the 2019 OMS Relays in a time of 4:17.31 is the HMS boys 4x400m relay team of Parker Anderson, Jackson Chasteen, Andrew Calvert and Holden Schales.
Four Bearcat throwers placed themselves in the top 10 of the HMS boys shot put during the HMS open held early in the season.
They include Wilson (7.58m), Engemann (7.24m), Matech (7.02m) and Tyree (6.89m).
Those athletes placed fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in HMS history.
Chris Hug currently owns the school record in the boys shot put with a throw 11.38m from the 2010 Pacific MS Relays.
Binkholder also vaulted his way into the top 10 of the boys pole vault for HMS clearing 2.45m at the HMS Relays.
Myles Stiers is the current record holder in that event clearing 2.80m at the 2023 New Haven Triangular track meet.
Kolks also posted a leap of 10.26m in the boys triple jump during the HMS Relays putting him sixth all time behind Gavyn Theissen who currently holds the school record with a mark of 10.26m.
