OWENSVILLE — Two days removed from a seventh and eighth-grade volleyball doubleheader at Owensville Elementary School, Hermann Middle School’s 7th grade volleyball team coached by Alida Laaker returned to Owensville Saturday morning for a four-team quad event at Owensville High School (OHS) competing against the host Dutchgirls, Salem Lady Tigers and New Haven Lady Shamrocks.

Action earlier in the week had the Lady Bearcats on the road last Monday night at St. Clair before hosting Washington last Tuesday night.

Hermann dropped both matches to the Lady Bulldogs losing seventh-grade action 25-9 and 25-5 while the eighth-grade Lady Bearcats also fell to St. Clair in two sets 25-9 and 25-7.

East along Highway 100 in Washington last Tuesday night, Hermann fell in seventh-grade action to the Lady Blue Jays by scores of 25-20 and 25-22 while their eighth-grade counterparts also dropped their match in two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-19.

With Gasconade County bragging rights on the line last Thursday night at Owensville Elementary School (OES), Hermann took the seventh-grade match in two sets 25-23 and 25-7 while Owensville won the eighth-grade showdown also in two sets 25-17 and 25-13.

During quad volleyball action Saturday at OHS, Hermann opened the morning defeating Salem in two sets 25-12 and 25-18 before falling to New Haven in three sets by scores of 8-25, 25-23 and 15-5.

Capping quad action Saturday was a rematch between the host Dutchgirls and Lady Bearcats.

Elana Towery helped Hermann to an early 3-1 lead with a pair of aces before a Lyndsey Krueger kill and two Mikayla Tallent service points put the Lady Bearcats back in front 6-4.

Trailing 9-6 near the midway point of game one, an Owensville service error sent Krueger to serving duty where she served two aces over the next five points helping Hermann take a 12-9 lead.

Now down 17-14, another Dutchgirl service error put Abigail Heisel behind the serving line where she had an ace over three points giving the blue and white an 18-17 lead.

Going back and forth throughout the remainder of game one, Bailey Fennessey served the final point of game one giving it to Hermann 25-23.

In spite of three service aces from Towery, the Lady Bearcats dropped game two 25-13 sending the match to a decisive third set.

Six aces over seven points from Towery gave Hermann an 8-0 lead in game three before Krueger added another ace helping the Lady Bearcats to a 12-6 advantage that eventually disappeared before dropping game three and the match to Owensville 23-25, 25-13 and 15-12.

Both Hermann’s seventh and eighth-grade Lady Bearcat volleyball teams will be in action at tournaments in Washington and Owensville respectively.
