Jack Lee Tayloe of Cuba Missouri, husband of Mary Margaret (Edlen) Tayloe, passed peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 2, 2022. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday morning, Sept.10, at 9 a.m. at the Gottenstroeter Chapel, 108 South Second Street in Owensville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. and graveside service will be afterwards at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Lunch is provided for the family at the Snowensville Diner.
Jack was born on Jan. 5, 1934, to Maurice and Della (Rutz) Tayloe in University City. He was raised in University City and later met Mary Edlen while attending Central Methodist University in Fayette. Jack was the local college photographer and Mary was smitten by his warm smile and friendly spirit. He had never really “went with” a girl until he met Mary. Dec. 24, 1954, the two were married in a small church in Luray. They were married for 64 years, when Mary passed.
Jack spent a good part of his life working for trucking companies, Phillips 66, Ruan, Roadway, Be Mack and Scherman were a few. He was also a lover of science, biology, and teaching. However, Jack’s first love was the family farm, located halfway between Owensville and Cuba. Together Jack and Mary raised Hereford cattle. The farm has been in the family since it was first purchased from the railroad by Jack’s maternal grandparents Charles and Laura (Souders) Rutz. Then around 1950 Jack’s parents, Maurice and Della (Rutz) Tayloe, purchased the farm from them. During that period, the Tayloe and Rutz family worked together to run an egg distribution facility on the farm. They used panel-sided trucks which were labeled with the company’s name “Valleyview Farms.” This also was the name for the family’s farm, which still to this day beautifully features golden fields nestled creek-side between rocky outcrops of the Ozark bluffs.
The last year and a half of his life, Jack lived in Stonebridge Nursing Home in Owensville. There he enjoyed the nurses and patients around him. Everyone loved him and enjoyed the smile that he shared with each of them.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Della (Rutz) Tayloe; and son Joseph Maurice Tayloe and wife Mary (Edlen) Tayloe.
He is survived by children Dan Tayloe and wife Vicki of Phoenix, Ariz., Ed Tayloe and wife Mary Ann of Cuba, and Jeanette (Tayloe) Lawson and husband Shawn of James Island, S.C.; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jack was a great man.
