James Michael Schuck, 91, Leslie, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at his home in Leslie.
He was born Nov. 5, 1934, to Raymond and Katherine (Scherer) Schuck in Chicago, Ill.
He was united in marriage to Berdine “Bea” Martin on Dec. 29, 1956, in Black River Falls, Wis.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Jim went on to receive his PHD in biochemistry from MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
He spent his career working at Monsanto in medical research while raising five children in Chesterfield. At retirement, he and Berdine purchased property in Leslie, where they worked dawn to dusk to make it a haven for their family.
Jim loved plant propagation and proudly showed off the grand trees he started from seed.
He was preceded in death by wife, Berdine Schuck; parents, Raymond and Katherine; grandson, Adam Zick; son-in-law, Richard Mathews; and brother, Jere Schuck.
Jim is survived by son, James J. Schuck and friend Amy Rucker of Columbia; daughters, Susan Johnson and husband Brian of Columbia, Barb Zick and husband Stu of Marshall, Minn., Laura Mathews of Arlington, Texas and Mary Schuck and friend Vince Ardito of Wildwood; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, John Schuck and wife Liz of Chapel Hill, Tenn; sisters, Judy Schuck of Milwaukee, Wis. and Jane Jaskowski of Madison, Wis.; and sister-in-law, Susan Schuck of Bethesda, Md.
Services will be held at a later date.
