Our beloved husband and father, Jerry Alan Moeckli passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 at the age of 74.

Captain Jerry Moeckli started his career with the Chesterfield Fire Protection District on Feb. 16, 1972. He was promoted to Captain on Aug. 15, 1988. He proudly served the West St. Louis County community for 26 years, when he retired on March 9, 1998. After retirement, he spent time as the Fire Chief for the Holts Summit Fire Protection District.

He was preceded in death by parents Albert and Arlene Moeckli. Jerry was born in Owensville, June 20, 1948, where his life of service began. Jerry started out as a small town lifeguard, and went on to serve his country, retiring after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, as a Master Sergeant, including Vietnam War and Dessert Storm. He also was called to serve his city as a firefighter/paramedic with the Chesterfield Fire Protection District, retiring as a Captain after 27 years. In his spare time he served his community coaching a variety of youth sports, the kids whose lives he touched probably would simply remember him as “Coach.” Jerry was lastly called to serve the lord; he was a Chaplin for six years in Sacramento, Calif., served as a Chaplin at Mercy hospital in Lebanon, and an emergency Chaplin in Laclede County for two years. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion in Lebanon, and he was a missionary.

Jerry lived a very full life and traveled all over the world, he and Joyce lived in many different states across the country, it was rare, but when you did get him to sit still, it was often in a boat, trying to catch a big crappie.

He was as tough as they come, and to the point on most things, but those that loved him saw his big heart and the softer side of Jerry. He has left his family and friends with many memories and stories to share for generations. He will be greatly missed but is now resting in the arms of the Lord.

He is survived by wife of 22 years, Joyce Moeckli, of the home; sons, Matthew Moeckli (Diane) of Blue Springs and Mitchell Moeckli (Angie) of St. Joseph; daughter, Nicole Edison (Adam) of Mack’s Creek; step-sons, Carl Marshall (Penny) of Mexico and Phillip Marshall of Lebanon; grandchildren Ashlyn, Alivia, Sage, Amelia, Colton, Cora, Henry, Brycen, Brett, Dakota; and great-granddaughters Sophia, Braelynn and Lyla.

A Celebration of Life was held Monday, June 26, at the Family Center at Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin. Final honors were held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road St. Louis. The family asks that donations to Backstoppers STL be made instead of flowers or other gifts.
