Jimmie Leon “Jim” Barrick, 79, Owensville, passed away on Aug. 21, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Washington surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born May 1, 1947, to the late Frederick “Fritz” and Loretta (Cox) Barrick of Belle.
He proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran from 1966 to 1968. Following his military service, Jim dedicated 35 years of hard work to Chrysler before retiring. Retirement didn’t suit his energetic spirit for long, however, and he happily returned to work at The Toolroom, where he spent another several years.
He spent his life embodying the values of hard work, kindness, generosity and unwavering devotion to those he loved. While many people are remembered for what they did, Jim will be remembered for who he was, an exceptionally caring husband, father, brother, friend, and simply one of the finest human beings you could ever hope to meet.
To know Jim was to love him. He possessed a rare gift for making people feel welcome, valued and cared for. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement or share a laugh. His family knew him as a provider in every sense of the word, not only through his hard work but through the endless love, guidance, support and sacrifices he gave throughout his life. Jim’s children were his pride and joy, and he spent his entire life putting their needs before his own.
He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and loved being outdoors, whether he was fishing, tending his garden or riding his ATV. Jim enjoyed shooting pool while singing along to his favorite music from the 1950s & 60s, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Blues, reading a good book and tackling the daily crossword puzzle. His monthly lunch gatherings with his Belle High School classmates was always marked on his social calendar.
One of his favorite pastimes was taking monthly trips with Judy to the casinos, where they shared laughter, companionship and a little friendly gambling adventure.
Above all else, Jim will be remembered for his outlook on life. He was genuinely happy, relentlessly optimistic and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. Jim saw the good in people and made the world a better place simply by being in it. His kindness was effortless, his generosity knew no bounds and his love for family was evident in everything he did.
Jim was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed and will be remembered always.
He was preceded in death by parents, Fritz and Loretta; cherished daughter, Michelle; and sister, Betty Limberg.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Judy of nearly 59 years and with whom he would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this November. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, friendship, and countless memories. He is also survived by daughter, Pam Barrick and partner Don Nagy; son, Scott Barrick and wife Anita; stepson, Hunter Hutchison; brothers, Danny and BennieBarrick; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
