Joan Gertrude Schnieders, 80, Wardsville, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born April 26, 1943, to the late Frank Joseph and Rose Hubertina (Otto) Struemph in Jefferson City.

She was a 1961 graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia.

Joan was united in marriage to Thomas John Schnieders July 6, 1963, by Rev. Bernard Groner at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg.

She was employed with Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Department of Mental Health, Division of Employment Security, and Blair Oaks School District.

Joan was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, Sodality of Our Lady, and participated with Perpetual Adoration.

She enjoyed reading, playing board games, word search books, traveling to U. S. State Capitol buildings, watching the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by husband, Thomas; parents; Frank and Rose; infant son, John Paul Schnieders; daughter, Cathy Schnieders-Grawe; brothers, Alphonse, Martin and David Struemph; sister, Marcella (Thomas) Utterback; and brother-in-law, Edmund Lueckenotto.

She is survived by children, Rhonda Haes and husband Michael, of Clark, Michael Schnieders of Meta, Bonnie Schnieders of Wardsville,  Michelle Kelly of Wardsville and Roxanne Braun and husband Samuel of  Osage Bend; son-in-law, Kevin Grawe; grandchildren, Jonathon Haes and wife Amanda, Leah Haes, Ryan Haes and wife Alyssa, Ashley and Elizabeth Hughes, Lauren Schnieders, Madison Moore, Quinn Kelly, Dylan, Tristan and Isabel Grawe and Bailey Braun; great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Gabriel, Mary, Michael and Brian; siblings, Arline Lueckenotto of Jefferson City, Judy Heckman and husband William of Koeltztown,  Sylvia Frank and husband Forrest of Rich Fountain, Donna Schellman and husband Robert of St. Thomas; and sister-in-law, Clara Struemph of Westphalia.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 - 7 p.m., (today) Wednesday, May 31, at Trimble Funeral Homes in Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 1, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. David Cox and the Rev. James Finder concelebrating.

Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Celiac Disease Foundation; Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  She also wished to promote cancer screenings for everyone throughout one’s life.
