Looking to pick up their varsity counterparts following a 6-0 loss Friday night against Potosi’s Trojans, Owensville’s junior varsity baseball team took on Potosi’s JV Trojans in a five-inning contest.
Throughout the game, each half-inning ended with either three outs or three runs scored.
Able to plate three runs in the bottom of the second inning, Owensville made it enough holding on for a 3-2 victory over their Washington County visitors.
Khai Krupp earned the win pitching three innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks while recording six strikeouts.
Jack Tesson earned a six-out save pitching two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and one walk to go with three strikeouts.
Trailing 1-0 after one inning, Braxton Perkins started the bottom of the second with a walk before scoring on a Jax Johnston RBI single tying the game at 1-1.
A Kastin Warren walk and Mason Turner being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Will Coppedge.
Delivering a one-out RBI single to left field scoring Johnston, Coppedge gave the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead.
Chase Heidbrink was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded allowing Warren to score giving Owensville a 3-1 lead.
In spite of allowing a run in the top of the third inning, Owensville was able to hold on for their first JV win of the season.
Along with being the winning pitcher, Krupp drew a pair of walks for OHS.
Varsity action saw the Dutchmen trailing 2-0 through three innings before allowing four runs in the top of the seventh inning of their 6-0 loss to Potosi.
Hitting into two double plays throughout the game, Owensville was not able to get the timely hit with runners in scoring position.
Gabe Medlock took the loss pitching four innings allowing two runs on six hits and a walk to go with two strikeouts.
Tucker Sassmann led the Dutchmen with two hits to go along with a hit apiece from Westin Kramme, Chris Allen, Chase Weirich and Bryce Kramme.
Leyton Homeyer, Bryce Kramme and Weirich each also drew walks against Potosi.
Last Tuesday on the road at Fulton, Owensville cut a 5-0 deficit after two innings to 5-3 before Fulton got those runs back in the bottom of the third inning leaving the orange and black on the short end of an 8-4 final score.
Using a two-out rally to get on the board in the top of the third inning, Westin Kramme and Sassmann both singled before Weirich walked to load the bases for George Vandegriffe.
Lining a two-RBI double to left-center field, Vandegriffe cut the deficit at the time to 5-2 before he scored on an Allen RBI single capping Owensville’s three-run top of the third inning.
Bryce Kramme singled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning for Owensville’s final run of the game in varsity action at Fulton.
Weirich took the loss pitching three innings allowing eight runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts.
Bryce Kramme threw three innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit while striking out two batters.
Falling 7-2 in JV action against Fulton, Johnston and Turner both scored for Owensville in the top of the fifth inning to break up the shutout bid.
Starting the week last Monday in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) road action at St. Clair, Owensville carried a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning only to see the host Bulldogs turn seven hits and a walk into seven runs putting OHS on the tough end of a 7-6 loss.
Westin Kramme and Allen both had two hits while Bryce Kramme drew a team-high three walks at the plate.
Garnering a no-decision, Sassmann pitched six innings allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six batters.
Vandegriffe took the loss pitching a third of an inning allowing two runs on three hits.
Dropping the JV contest 6-2, Owensville scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning when Caleb Lottmann reached on a dropped third strike before scoring on a Cayson Faulkner RBI triple.
Faulkner later scored on a passed ball.
Seeing their Monday home game with Belle canceled due to forecasted severe weather, Owensville hosted St. Francis Borgia last night (Tuesday) at OHS Field before facing Capital City tomorrow (Thursday) and New Haven Friday at home.
