That was on the collective minds of Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team last Tuesday night welcoming Hermann’s Lady Bearcats to OHS Field for a Gasconade County softball showdown.

Opening their season with five consecutive road losses, the orange and black looked for some home cooking to get them their first win of the season.

Putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning, Owensville gave freshman starting pitcher Hannah Keeney all the offense she would need before going on to throw a three-hit shutout of Hermann by a final score of 10-0.

Hermann’s Delilah Nobel was hit by a pitch before Sheilah Dodorico added a two-out single in the top of the first inning.

Keeney induced an inning-ending ground out to keep the game scoreless entering Owensville’s half of the first inning.

Emma Daniels led the bottom of the first inning off with a double for the Dutchgirls.

She scored on a Clara Julius single with an error giving Owensville a 1-0 lead.

Julius later stole home doubling the Dutchgirl lead to 2-0 before Keeney singled and scored helping her cause.

After Keeney also stole home, Bailee Dare walked and scored on a Claire Oswalt RBI single.

Kate Blankenship was also hit by a pitch before she stole home giving Owensville a 5-0 lead over Hermann after one inning.

Molly Scheer started Hermann’s half of the second inning with a leadoff double before a Maria Vedder single moved her to third base with two outs.

Keeney struck out Nobel to end the frame leaving two Lady Bearcats on the base paths.

Helping her own cause, Keeney was hit by a pitch before stealing home and giving Owensville a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Dodorico recorded a two-out single in the top of the third inning for Hermann only to be left stranded.

OHS added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Daniels doubled and scored on a Julius RBI single.

Julius stole home later in the inning giving Owensville an 8-0 lead after four innings.

OHS started the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff double from Lainey Moss before Daniels hit an inside-the-park home run to right field giving the Dutchgirls a 10-0 mercy rule win over Hermann in five innings.

Keeney earned the win scattering three hits over five innings with no walks and five strikeouts.

Kimber Hale took the loss for Hermann allowing 10 runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out seven Owensville batters.

Owensville will host their annual home tournament beginning Saturday at 8 a.m., at OHS Field.
