Opening their season inside the friendly confines of Bearcat Memorial Stadium on the campus of Hermann High School (HHS), Hermann Middle School (HMS) track and field athletes coached by Kim Forbis won four events in their season-opening meet held last Tuesday.
Leading HMS’ Lady Bearcats to a third-place team finish with 75 points behind Montgomery County (135) and South Callaway (104), Kennedy Schwenck broke the HMS record in the girls triple jump with a winning leap of 9.66 meters besting the previous mark of 9.38m held by Megan Gerloff back in 2017.
In addition to her record-breaking leap, Schwenck also placed second in the girls long jump with a leap of 4.26m, second in the girls 400m dash in a time 1:10.44 and third in the girls 100m dash 14.28.
Harper Stiers led a large group of Lady Bearcats in the girls 100m dash with a second-place time of 14.16.
Camber Rohlfing also scored team points with a sixth-place time of 14.77 in the girls 100m dash for Hermann.
Lady Bearcats also sprinting down the track in the girls 100m dash were Raelynn Kleinheider (11th, 15.31), Kylee Schweighauser (16th, 15.57), Ellison Calvert (17th, 15.72), Nora Leeper (19th, 16.03), Khloe Cuellar (24th, 16.55, Nadia Davis (26th, 16.62), Natalie Englert (27th, 16.65), Kylie VandeVoorde (31st, 17.23), Kapri Bruno (33rd, 17.37), Siena Palladino (34th, 17.41), Renee Beckman (41st, 17.64), EllaGrace Carr (43rd, 19.01) and Jackie Hudson (44th, 20.03).
Elana Towery led the Lady Bearcats in the girls 200m dash with a fourth-place time of 31.76 while Bailey Fennessey (13th, 33.73) and Lyndsey Krueger (15th, 33.98) also posted top-15 times in the girls 200m dash for Hermann.
Kleinheider showed the way for Hermann in the girls 800m run with a third-place time of 3:02.46 while Englert added a team point with an eighth-place time of 3:19.90.
Towery (6th, 21.29) and Fennessey (8th, 21.39) picked up team points for HMS in the girls 100m hurdles.
Mackenzie Bader collected a team point for the Lady Bearcats with an eighth-place throw of 6.79m in the girls shot put while Cuellar led HMS with a fourth-place throw of 17.66m in the girls discus.
Scoring points for Hermann in the girls triple jump in addition to Schwenck were Stiers (3rd, 8.26m), Rohlfing (4th, 7.95m), Calvert (7th, 7.30m) and Schweighauser (8th, 6.97m).
Racking up 73.5 team points, HMS’ Bearcats finished fifth in the team standings behind South Callaway (103), Bourbon (101.5), Fatima (101) and Montgomery County (98).
Bentley Kolks placed fifth for the Hermann in the boys 100m dash in a time of 13.34 while Emmerson Binkholder scored a team point with his eighth-place time of 13.45.
Mason Roche (12th, 14.34), Olson Rucker (26th, 15.89) and Will Traub (31st, 16.97) also sprinted down the track for HMS’ Bearcats in the boys 100m dash.
Binkholder led the Bearcats in the boys 200m dash with a second-place time of 27.57 while Lane Bristow scored team points with a fourth-place time of 1:09.01 in the boys 400m dash.
Olson Rucker (6th, 2:52.85) and Jakob Hoener (7th, 2:57.54) picked up team points for Hermann in the boys 800m run.
Also taking two laps around the track for the Bearcats included Landon Wilson (9th, 2:58.09), Henry Lindahl (12th, 3:04.06), Garth Gerlemann (15th, 3:09.58), Alex Beckman (20th, 3:28.95) and Carter Brink (23rd, 3:31.44).
Winning the boys 4x400m relay in a time of 5:15.79 was the HMS Bearcat quartet of Teagan Rucker, Olson Rucker, Lindahl and Roche.
Taking third in the boys 4x800m relay for Hermann in a time of 11:51.08 was the blue and white team of Blake Engemann, Gerlemann, Wilson and Bristow.
Wilson led five Bearcat throwers in the boys shot put with a 13th-place throw of 7.58m.
Following Wilson in the boys shot put for HMS were Engemann (14th, 7.24m), Demetrius Matech (15th, 7.02m), Logan Tyree (16th, 6.89m) and Ben Rost (21st, 5.20m).
Matech topped Bearcat throwers in the boys discus with an eighth-place mark of 21.58m.
Bristow captured the high jump for Hermann with a winning clearing height of 1.55m while Binkholder placed ninth in the boys pole vault clearing 2.15m.
Kolks won the boys triple jump for the Bearcats with a leap of 9.94m while taking fifth in the boys long jump posting a mark of 4.44m.
HMS Track competed Monday in the Owensville Open and will return to action on Monday, April 13 at the St. James Middle School Invitational.
