UNION — Falling 53-15 to Lutheran South and 35-28 against New Haven at the Union LadyCat Girls Basketball Tournament earlier last week, Matt Kramme’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team went for their first win of 2026 in Saturday’s seventh-place game against Washington’s Lady Blue Jays.
Within striking distance at halftime trailing 15-12, Owensville was outscored 24-10 in the second half of their 39-22 loss now leaving them waiting until tonight (Wednesday) for their next shot at a 2026 notch in the win column on the road against Linn’s Lady Wildcats.
Cambell Schulte led the Dutchgirls against Washington with six points on a pair of 3-pointers followed closely by Lainey Moss who scored all five of her points in the second quarter.
Cameron Ryerson and Piper Koelling each added four points while Abbey Quilacio capped the Dutchgirl scoring against Washington with a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points.
Emily Schwoeppe and Callie Briggs each led the Lady Blue Jays with 12 points.
Dutchgirls vs. New Haven
Sent to the consolation side of the bracket following a 53-15 loss to Lutheran South’s Lady Lancers last Monday night, Kramme’s Dutchgirls faced off against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks in the consolation semifinals last Thursday night.
Falling behind 15-4 after one quarter, Owensville was able to pull within seven points at 31-24 after three quarters but could not get any closer before ending up on the short end of a 35-28 final score.
Ryerson nearly recorded a double double for the Dutchgirls scoring eight of her 10 points in the second half to go with a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.
Quilacio hit a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers for six points while also recording two rebounds and two assists.
Cylee Reed and Koelling each added five points while Moss hit a pair of first-quarter free throws for two points rounding out the Owensville scoring against New Haven.
Moss added six rebounds, three steals and two assists to her two points.
Alivia Guehne led the Lady Shamrocks with 12 points.
Dutchgirls vs. Lutheran South
Opening the Union LadyCat Girls Basketball Tournament last Monday night at Union High School against Lutheran South’s Lady Lancers, Owensville trailed 4-3 after one quarter before Lutheran South outscored them 49-12 the rest of the way of their 53-15 setback.
Ryerson led the Dutchgirls with five points and seven rebounds while Reed and Moss tossed in three points apiece.
Moss also grabbed six rebounds to go with her three points.
Quilacio and Koelling each hit a pair of free throws for two points capping the Owensville scoring against the Lady Lancers.
Elise Hoehner paced Lutheran South with 14 points while Kendra Howard was also in double figures with 11 points for the Lady Lancers.
After traveling to Linn to face the Lady Wildcats tonight (Wednesday), Owensville will compete in next week’s Hermann Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament.
