HERMANN — Falling 63-32 against Liberty (Wentzville) and 42-28 to New Haven, Matt Kramme’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team entered Saturday’s seventh-place game against the Gateway Legacy Christian Academy (GLCA) Lady Lions looking to end January with a win and snap an eight-game losing streak at the same time.

Seeing a 20-point halftime lead disappear in the fourth quarter, Owensville led 45-41 with 2:39 left on an Abbey Quilacio bucket before the Lady Lions ended regulation on a 5-1 run to force overtime.

Surviving one four-minute overtime, Owensville scored the first seven points of the second overtime to escape with a 61-57 victory.

“We needed this win badly,” Kramme said. “It was not the prettiest victory but a win is a win.”

Trailing 7-6 with 3:38 for the first quarter, Owensville ended the first eight minutes on a 7-2 run to take a 13-9 advantage into the second quarter.

Catching fire from the field, Owensville blitzed the Lady Lions 18-2 in the second quarter giving them a 31-11 halftime lead at Hermann High School.

Cameron Ryerson led the Dutchgirls with 11 first-half points while Quilacio also reached double figures in the first half with 10 points.

Lainey  Moss hit a 3-pointer to open the third quarter giving Owensville their biggest lead of the game at 34-11 moments into the second half.

Outside of a Myla Lauth free throw and a Ryerson bucket in the closing seconds of the quarter, GLCA put 24 points on their side of the scoreboard drastically reducing Owensville’s lead to two points at 37-35 entering the fourth quarter.

Down 38-37 thanks to a Lady Lion 3-pointer with 7:43 left in regulation, Kramme’s Dutchgirls answered with consecutive buckets from Ryerson and Shae Abernathy putting OHS back in front 41-38 with 6:05 for the fourth quarter.

Owensville led throughout the remainder of the period until the Lady Lions hit a 3-pointer with :35 left to eventually force overtime tied at 46-46.

Surviving three ties and four lead changes during the first four-minute overtime, Owensville needed a Lainey Moss bucket with :28 for the first overtime to force a second overtime.

Able to overcome eight missed free throws in the second overtime, Owensville scored the first seven points lifting them to their first notch in the win column in over a month.

Ryerson led three Dutchgirls in double figures finishing with a double double of 18 points, 13 rebounds and four steals.

Moss added 16 points and four rebounds while Quilacio rounded out the trio of Dutchgirl double digit scorers with 14 points, two rebounds and two steals.

Abernathy added five of her seven points in the second quarter while Piper Koelling chipped in four points and eight rebounds.

Lauth capped the Dutchgirl scoring with two points on a pair of free throws.

Dutchgirls vs. New Haven

Sent to the consolation semifinals at Hermann Middle School (HMS) after a Hermann Tournament first-round loss to Liberty (Wentzville), Kramme’s Dutchgirls got another shot at New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.

Only able to put two points on the board in the first quarter on a Koelling buzzer beater, Owensville simply could not overcome the early deficit before falling 42-28 to the Lady Shamrocks.

Cambell Schulte led Owensville with seven points followed closely with six points from Koelling.

Moss and Quilacio both chipped in four points followed by three points from Cylee Reed on a third-quarter 3-pointer.

Rounding out the Dutchgirl scoring with two points apiece against New Haven were Ryerson and Abernathy.

Alivia Guehne led New Haven and all scorers with 16 points.

Dutchgirls vs. Liberty (Wentzville)

Opening the weather delayed Hermann Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament last Wednesday night, Kramme’s Dutchgirls took on the Liberty (Wentzville) Lady Eagles at Hermann Middle School.

Within striking distance trailing 40-29 after three quarters, Owensville was outscored 23-2 in the fourth quarter of their 63-32 loss to the Lady Eagles.

Ryerson led the Dutchgirls with 14 points followed by four first-quarter points from Koelling.

Chipping in three points apiece were Reed, Abernathy, Schulte and Quilacio.

Moss hit a fourth-quarter bucket for two points capping the Dutchgirl scoring against the Lady Eagles.

Owensville will host Hermann’s Lady Bearcats this Friday night as part of winter homecoming festivities with a 5:30 p.m., tip time.
