MOKANE — Answering every Russellville Lady Indian shot.

That is what Andy Emmons’ Hermann Lady Bearcats had to do Saturday afternoon during the third-place game at the South Callaway Girls Basketball Tournament in Mokane.

Nursing a 35-32 halftime lead, Hermann led 52-45 after three quarters before managing to survive every Russellville fourth-quarter rally holding on for a 69-61 victory.

Macy Bader and Kennedie Witthaus each led Hermann with 14 points followed by Hughes with 12 points.

Witthaus (First Team) and Hughes (Second Team) were both named to the South Callaway All-Tournament Team.

Hughes nearly finished with a triple double adding eight assists and seven rebounds to her 12 points.

Bader grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to nearly record a double double.

Karigan Lane narrowly missed making it four Lady Bearcats in double figures ending up with nine points against Russellville.

Kealie Lane added eight points followed closely by Jill Rood with seven points.

Scoring three points apiece in the win for Hermann were Kimber Hale and Alivia Christian.

Ella Volkart led Russellville with a game-high 26 points.

After drawing a first-round bye, Hermann took on North Callaway’s Lady Thunderbirds with a spot in the title game on the line last Thursday night.

Going into halftime with a 24-21 lead, Hermann saw North Callaway outscore them 38-26 in the second half of their 59-50 semifinal loss at South Callaway.

Hughes led the Lady Bearcats nearly posting a double double of 21 points and eight rebounds.

Witthaus nearly also recorded a double double of her own with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Karigan Lane added five points and five rebounds while Bader finished with four points.

Kealie Lane, Jill Rood and Christian each put in three points while Hale rounded out Hermann’s scoring with one point on a third-quarter free throw.

Monday night at St. Clair, Hermann won their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener 73-42 while the JV Lady Bearcats dropped a close 23-22 decision in Franklin County.

Traveling to Cuba tomorrow (Thursday) night for a Highway 19 showdown, Hermann will start play in their home tournament Monday night facing Owensville’s Dutchgirls.
