MOKANE — Dropping a 57-48 against top-seed Russellville last Wednesday night, Ashley Aaron’s Hermann Lady Bearcats looked to leave South Callaway High School Saturday afternoon with hardware following the third-place game against their Highway 19 rivals to the north in Montgomery County Lady Wildcats.
Leading 19-16 at halftime, Hermann could not overcome being outscored 19-7 in the third quarter by Montgomery County before settling for fourth place after a 49-44 loss to the Lady Wildcats.
Andrea Van Booven showed the way for Hermann with 17 points followed in double figures by Kealie Lane with 14 points.
Kimber Hale added all six of her points in the first half while Brynlee Ash chipped in three points.
Scoring two points apiece for the Lady Bearcats on first-half buckets were Kalli Landolt and Madyson Yates.
Emma Rodgers led Montgomery County and all scorers with 30 points.
Lady Bearcats vs. Russellville
Escaping first-quarter action with an 11-10 lead over top-seeded Russellville, the Lady Bearcats fell behind 23-16 at halftime but could not get any closer before coming up on the short end of a 57-48 final score.
Andrea Van Booven paced the Lady Bearcats with 18 points followed in double digits by Ash with 13 of her 16 points in the second half.
Hale nearly made it three Hermann girls in double digits with eight points.
Victoria Van Booven, Lane and Landolt each finished with two points rounding out Hermann’s scoring against Russellville.
K’lea Basnett paced the Lady Indians and all scorers with 30 points.
Lady Bearcats vs. Vienna
Opening the South Callaway Girls Basketball Tournament last Monday night in first-round action against Vienna’s Lady Eagles, Hermann trailed 23-22 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Eagles 31-22 in the second half of their 53-45 victory.
Lane led the blue and white with 20 points which included four makes from beyond the 3-point arc.
Hale also reached double figures netting 13 of her 18 points in the second half.
Ash and Landolt each threw in four points apiece while Yates added all three of her points in the second half.
Erika Schutt and Hallie Kallmeyer each added two points rounding out the Lady Bearcat scoring against Vienna.
Aubrey Schwartze led Vienna’s Lady Eagles with 21 points.
Hale and Lane were both named to the South Callaway All-Tournament Team for the Lady Bearcats.
Taking on Cuba’s Lady Wildcats tomorrow (Thursday) night in a Highway 19 road showdown in Crawford County, Hermann will get another shot at Montgomery County next Monday night in first-round action of the Hermann Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament.
