Lady Bearcats stay in FRC title hunt with senior-night victory over Union’s Lady Wildcats

Posting a 33-25 road victory at Pacific last Monday night, Ashley Aaron’s Hermann Lady Bearcats looked to stay undefeated in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) girls basketball action Thursday night hosting Union’s Lady Wildcats for senior night.

Seeing their JV counterparts post a post a 34-20 victory, Aaron’s varsity Lady Bearcats used a 26-3 run over the second and third quarters to secure a 59-36 victory on senior night.

Surviving six lead changes and four ties in the opening eight minutes, Hermann snagged an 11-9 advantage after one quarter on a pair of Kealie Lane free throws with 3.2 ticks for the first period.

Able to limit Union to a free throw at the 4:41 mark of the second quarter, the Lady Bearcats added 12 points to their side of the scoreboard helping them to a double-digit halftime lead by a score of 23-10.

Andrea VanBooven led the Lady Bearcats with seven first-half points.

Ending the first half on a 14-1 run, Hermann picked up right where they left off opening the third quarter on a 10-0 run giving them their biggest lead of the game at 33-10 at the 5:16 mark of the quarter.

Able to keep their lead in double digits throughout the entire second half, Hermann went on to post a senior-night victory after honoring seniors Kimber Hale, Erika Schutt, Grace Engemann, Carlie Walkenbach, Remi Groner and Lane prior to the start of the varsity contest.

Hitting five second-half 3-pointers, Hale led the Lady Bearcats with 15 points followed in double figures with 12 points apiece from Andrea VanBooven and Madyson Yates.

Lane added six of her eight points in the second half while Brynlee Ash chipped in five points.

Kalli Landolt threw in four points to go along with three points from Schutt on an old-fashioned 3-point play in the third quarter.

Lane and VanBooven each grabbed six rebounds apiece while Yates, Lane and VanBooven each dished out a team-high two assists.

VanBooven also recorded a team-high four blocked shots while Lane added four steals.

Jess Robb’s Hermann JV Lady Bearcats trailed 14-11 at halftime before using an 18-0 run to start the second half helping them to a 34-20 victory.

Groner showed the way for Hermann with 10 points and seven rebounds while Hailey Diebal added nine points and four steals.

Lucy Theissen narrowly missed a double double finishing with eight points and seven rebounds while Engemann added three points.

Lily Korman and Brooklyn Yates each kicked in two points.

Lady Bearcats at Pacific

Posting FRC wins over Sullivan and Owensville, Hermann looked to make it three in a row last Monday night on the road against Pacific’s Lady Indians.

Entering halftime with a 15-5 lead, the Lady Bearcats went on to claim a 33-25 victory behind a game-high double double from Lane of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Ash also reached double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Hale added a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Madyson Yates and Andrea VanBooven each added two points.

Landolt also grabbed eight rebounds.

Hermann also on the JV contest by a final score of 31-25 behind 13 points from Brooklyn Yates and 11 points from Groner.

Theissen chipped in four points followed closely by Korman with two points and one point from Adlee LaBruyere on a fourth-quarter free throw.

Falling 38-26 Monday night at home against St. James, Hermann will end their regular season in a Highway 100 showdown tomorrow (Thursday) night at New Haven with two quarters of JV action starting at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.
