Lady Bearcats turn back Borgia’s Lady Knights

HERMANN — Defeating Washington six days earlier, Andy Emmons’ Hermann Lady Bearcat basketball team looked to go 2-0 against Washington basketball teams with a win last Monday night on the road against St. Francis Borgia’s Lady Knights.

Trailing 10-8 after one quarter, Hermann cranked up the offense outscoring the Lady Knights 44-23 the rest of the way en route to a 52-33 over the blue and gold on the road.

Kennedie Witthaus baked up a solid night leading the Lady Bearcats by scoring nine of her game-high 13 points in the second half to go along with six rebounds.

Ava Hughes also reached double figures for Hermann adding 12 points and sharing team-high rebounding honors with six boards.

Alivia Christian nearly made it three Lady Bearcats in double digits finishing with eight points.

Kealie Lane added seven points, six rebounds and two steals for Emmons’ Hermann varsity squad.

Karigan Lane added a pair of 3-pointers for six points while Kimber Hale and Jill Rood each finished with four points to round out the varsity Lady Bearcat scoring against Borgia.

Clara Nowak led Borgia with nine points while Sydney Kessler pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Knights.

Unable to overcome a 13-3 third quarter, Ashley Aaron’s Hermann JV Lady Bearcats came up on the short end of a 39-27 final score.

Madyson Yates led the JV Lady Bearcats netting seven of her team-high 11 points in the second half.

Katie Krueger chipped in five points followed closely with four markers from Remi Groner.

Hallie Kallmeyer netted three points to go along with two each from Erika Schutt and Marley Busch.

Ending 2023 at 7-2 and currently riding a five-game winning streak, Emmons’ Lady Bearcats will open 2024 on Tuesday, Jan. 2 hosting Southern Boone’s Lady Eagles with a 6 p.m., start time for junior-varsity action.
