Several local Parochial Athletic League teams competed in the Catholic Bowl recently and returned with trophies.
CHAMPIONS
— St. Joseph’s JV B team won the title game 48-46 over St. Peter after knocking off Holy Family 40-24 in the semifinals. The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 57-24 win over St. Peter, and in the second round, defeated St. Joseph-JC 40-39.
— In the girls’ sixth-grade division, St. Joseph defeated Holy Family 26-17 to win the Catholic Bowl. The Lady Bulldogs opened with a 32-19 win over IC-JC, and defeated Trinity Lutheran 32-22 in the semis. Holy Family, meanwhile, beat IC-JC in the first round, 18-15, and then defeated OLLIS 28-17 before facing St. Joseph.
— IC-LC’s fifth-grade girls’ team held off IC-JC 16-10 in the championship game. The Lady Eagles advanced after defeating St. George 16-2, and defeated St. Thomas 25-3 in the second round after opening with a bye.
SECOND-PLACE
— St. George lost in the championship game of the JV A boys’ tournament, falling 43-28 to St. Stanislaus to end the year in second place. The Warriors beat IC-JC in the playoff opener 48-32.
— The St. Joseph JV Blue girls’ team lost to Trinity 36-20 to finish second. In the semis, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Holy Family 25-22, and opened the tournament with a 27-5 victory over St. Joseph-JC.
OTHER PLAYOFF CONTENDERS
— St. George’s fifth-grade girls lost in the quarterfinals against IC-LC, 16-2. The Lady Warriors in reaching this game had beaten Trinity Lutheran, 20-16, and opened the tournament with a 21-16 win over OLLIS.
— In varsity girls’ action, St. George defeated St. Stanislaus in the first round, 34-23, and lost in the second round 35-28 to IC-JC. IC-LC lost 38-13 to IC-JC in the opening round of the tournament.
— In the sixth-grade boys’ tourney, the St. George boys lost in their opener 49-18 to St. Peters, and IC-LC lost 49-43 to St. Joseph-JC in the first round.
