Loyd “Wayne” Nelms Sr., 68, Owensville, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.
He was born Oct. 5, 1953, to Billie Joe and Patsy A. (Layne) Nelms in Fayetteville, Ark.
Wayne served his country with the U.S. Army. He owned and operated the North Star Bar & Grill in Beaufort for over 10 years. He enjoyed drawing, painting, rock tumbling and playing casino games on his computer. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially listening to Ashley talk about the shows she had watched and books she read.
He was preceded in death by father Billie Joe and brother Lonny Nelms.
He is survived by mother Patsy A. Koppelmann and husband Ron of Gerald; the mother of his children Delores Taylor of Owensville; children Patsy Lee Nevills and husband Mark of Union, and Loyd Nelms Jr. and wife Shandra of Beaufort; siblings Richard Nelms Sr. of Leslie, Lyle Nelms and wife Cindy of Manilla, Ark., Robert Nelms of Owensville, and Jennifer Dorton of Lake Ozark; step-brother Ronnie Koppelmann Jr. and wife Cindy of Gerald; step-sisters Julie Stone and husband Tim of Wyandotte, Okla., and Cheryl Juby and husband Gary of Sperry, Okla.; and grandchildren Sierra Smith, Ashley Padgett and husband Ethan and Boston Belk.
Funeral services with full military honors were held Friday, June 17, at Gottenstroeter Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Koppelmann Jr. officiating.
