Mary Gallivan

Mary Virginia Gallivan, 103, passed away May 13, 2023, at Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville.

She was born Dec. 14, 1919, to Frank Leslie Stewart and Katherine Elizabeth (Bessie) Grimmett in Bolivar.

She was united in marriage to Ernest Deryll Gallivan, Feb. 12, 1942, in Baltimore, Md.

Mary began her teaching career in a one room school in Hayden for three years. She also taught school in Collins, Stockton and for many year in Boliver Elementary. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a charter member of the CMH auxiliary, where she worked several years in the gift shop. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Mary loved sports and was actively involved in basketball, swimming, tennis and golf. After retiring, Mary began hand piecing guilts and received many blue ribbons, plus twice won the Best of Show at Gasconade County Fair.

She was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Leslie; husband, Deryll; sons, Joe Deryll Gallivan and Michael Robert Gallivan; brother, Frank Henry Stewart and wife Eldorene; sister-in-law, Moriece Gallivan Skarvan and husband Milton; and step-mother, Amy Curl Stewart.

Mary is survived by daughter, Marilyn Sue White and husband Jim of Owensville; grandchildren, Stacy Jones, Laura Pacunas, Meri Ann Gallivan, Matthew White and wife Jill, and Sarah Junk and husband Aaron; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, May 22, from 10–11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Bolivar, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.
