Mayor Kamler saves his best for last

To the Editor:

John Kamler did many things to benefit the citizens of Owensville during his 16 years as mayor, but from my perspective he saved his best for last when he advised the board of alderman, “…to give Randy all the tools and support he needs and get out of his way.”

I worked with Randy Blaske for nine-plus years at Custom Printing Company and Von Hoffman Graphics and sought his help and advice often. I quickly learned that when Randy said he would take care something, you could rest assured it would be handled. To completion. Reminding him was not necessary; all that was required was updating my To-Do list and informing the customer that their request was being handled. As we spoke. During my forty-some years of grubbing for a paycheck, I dealt with no more that four people who possess the degree of assured-task-completion that Randy delivers. Every time!

Within three years of moving to Owensville I opined that the city administration handled city-business in a more reactive manner than a proactive one. That approach changed when John Kamler became mayor; it intensified when Randy Blaske finally succumbed to Mayor Kamler’s strong-arm tactics and accepted the position he’s proven to be custom-made for. The city now has both a short-term and a long-term plan, and our city officials are focused on those plans and making the moves needed to see them to fruition. Kudos to all who are involved in making this happen.

As a man proud to call Owensville home, I close with three items I consider highly important; thanking John Kamler for his sixteen years of solid, altruistic, civic-minded leadership; pleading with current and future boards of aldermen to follow John Kamler’s departing advice to the letter; pray that Randy Blaske will keep-on, keeping on.

With sincere appreciation,

Patrick J. Leslie
