Looking to end the month of March on a winning note, Wayland McKague’s Hermann Bearcat baseball team hit the road early last week in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) action at Sullivan last Monday and in non-conference action last Tuesday at Wright City.

Trailing 6-0 after three innings at Sullivan, Hermann scored a run each in the top of the fourth and fifth innings but could not score more before falling 12-2 in five innings.

Cole Brinker took the loss for the Bearcats throwing three and two-thirds innings allowing 12 runs (three earned) on 11 hits and four walks to go along with two strikeouts.

Recording base hits for the Bearcats at Sullivan included Carter Humphrey, Bracksten Carr, Nolan Ogroski and Brinker.

Kruz Eldringhoff and Carr also drove in runs for the blue and white with Braden Schutt and Humphrey crossing the plate.

Displaying patient eyes at the plate for Hermann with two walks apiece at Sullivan were Guy Hoffman and Carr.

During Hermann’s 15-0 loss in four innings at Wright City, an Eldringhoff two-out single in the top of the third inning broke up Wright City’s bid for both a perfect game and a no-hitter.

Scheduled to host Union’s Wildcats last night (Tuesday) at Dick Ochsner Ball Park in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) baseball action, McKague’s Bearcats will compete later this week in the Linn Invitational Baseball Tournament with Tiger Field in Belle hosting Hermann’s pool consisting of the host Belle Tigers, Bearcats and Cuba’s Wildcats.

Linn Tournament pool play will kick off Friday morning at 9:30 a.m., in a Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) showdown between Belle and Cuba followed by a Highway 19 cat fight at high noon between Hermann and Cuba.

Hermann will then cap pool play at approximately 2:45 p.m., taking on Belle.

Results from Friday’s pool games will determine who and what time Hermann will play this Saturday in Linn.

Editor’s Note: Nolan Ogroski was incorrectly identified as Nathan Ogroski in last week’s Gasconade County Republican.. The Republican regrets and apologies for the error.
