A New Adventure

Missouri’s freshman congressmen

Posted

Cori Anika Bush represents Missouri’s 1st district in the U.S. House of Representatives after she upset 10-term incumbent Lacy Clay in the 2020 primary election.
She was sworn into office on January 3. As Missouri’s freshman congresswoman, she has already made an impression on the national scene.
Bush joins five other members of a far-left progressive group in Congress known as the “squad.” Other members include Congressmen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (OAC) of New York —who coined the name in an Instagram post — Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Jamaal Bowman of New York.
In a speech before Congress, last Thursday, Bush praised Bassem Masri, who died in 2018. Most people won’t recognize that name, but they will remember the phrase he tweeted in December 2014 one month after police killed Michael Brown Jr. Brown assaulted a Ferguson police officer and refused to surrender.
That phrase became a popular Black Lives Matter chant “Pigs in a blanket, fry’em like bacon.”
Masri was a BLM activist who advocated for the death of police officers. During an Oct. 8, 2014 demonstration, Masri pointed at police officers as he said, “I’m praying for your death and your death and your death and your death.”
Incidentally, Bush, also in her speech, called Michael Brown’s death a “state-sanctioned murder,” even after all the evidence that shows his death was justified.
She then “demanded an end to the militarized police occupation of our communities.”
Bush is just the latest national Democrat politician to show her hatred of the men and women in blue who risk their lives every day to protect us.
Ocasio-Cortez’s slogan “defund the police,” along with other far-left policies, has been credited with Democrat losses in Congress in last November’s election.
In April, Bush applauded the city of St. Louis’ move to eliminate millions in police funding: “Today’s decision to defund the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is historic. It marks a new future for our city.”
Do rural Missourians who vote Democrat when they step into the voting booth wish someone like Bush or OAC represented us? Do they support these progressive views?
Statistics show that cities that have drastically reduced funding to their police departments have seen a rise in crime. According to Fox News, in the first two months of 2021, seventeen people were murdered in Portland, a significant increase from the one murder reported during the same period in 2020. The murder rate tripled in Portland from July 2020 to February 2021.
Adjunct Professor Preston Mitchum is a progressive who has the opportunity to spread his twisted views to college students at Georgetown University. “I really, really, really, really, really, really hate cops,” he said. “Hate them. The power. The unfettered abuse. The narcissism. Hate hate them.”
Talib —another member of the “squad,” — in a tweet last month went even farther as she called for the end of police, military and prisons.
She believes this is necessary because many parts of America are inherently racist and beyond the point of reform.
That tweet must have gone too far because other Democrats condemned her, stating that remarks like “no more policing” are profoundly unpopular and only reward Republicans with more ammunition.
I wonder if Bush’s constituents know of her hatred of the police. A recent poll published by USA Today shows that only 28 percent of Black Americans and as little as 34 percent of Democrats support the defund the police movement. Overall, 82 percent of Americans are against this lunacy.
Democrats who don’t voice their opposition and join Republicans at being repulsed by these statements only allow their party to lose control of these radicals.

On another note, Bush was also in the news to become more gender-neutral after professing her desire to change “mothers” to “birthing people”. She tweeted on May 13: “Every day, Black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain. My children almost became a statistic. I almost became a statistic.”
