One day after this week’s edition of the Gasconade County Republican comes out, we will be into the month of October on the calendar.
October marks the halfway point of the fall sports season where both the Owensville Dutchmen and Hermann Bearcat football teams are currently both searching for their first wins of the season.
After competing in the Chile Pepper Festival cross country races in Arkansas this coming weekend, Owensville and Hermann Cross Country squads will get to stay in Gasconade County for the rest of October.
Leg one of the Gasconade County hat trick will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 6 during the Hermann Invitational Cross Country meet at Loutre Shore Country Club with a 4 p.m., start time for racing.
Action will shift to Owensville High School for leg two of the Gasconade County Cross Country Hat Trick and the Owensville Invitational Cross Country meet on Tuesday, Oct. 13 with racing also scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Leg three will culminate with the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) Cross Country meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 back at Loutre Shore Country Club with racing starting at 2 p.m.
Former Hermann Bearcat football Daeden Hopkins is making his presence known in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as a member of the University of Missouri Tiger football team.
Named the Co-SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week two weeks ago, Hopkins was just named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the second consecutive week recording 3.5 sacks and four total tackles (3.0 solo) during the Tigers’ 31-24 loss to Mississippi State, on Saturday.
Hopkins’ 3.5 sacks ranks second all-time in a single game in Mizzou football program history giving him six sacks for the season which ranked third nationally and second in the SEC.
