OHS Dutchgirls top nine teams on home track

Winning their open meet earlier in the month, Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School (OHS) track and field squads looked to add to the trophy case during the OHS Relays held Friday at Dutchmen Field in spite of a pop-up thunderstorm that hit the area moments into the start of the field events.

Once the weather cleared out, action heated up on the track with the Dutchgirls winning five events helping them top the team standings with 132.5 points ahead of Potosi (115.5), Hermann (88.5), St. Francis Borgia (85.5), Fatima (81.5), St. Clair (80), Montgomery County (71.5), Salem (44), Chamois (7) and Viburnum (1).

Senior Ariana Katsov claimed 20 points by herself winning the girls 100-meter and 200m dashes in times of 13.79 and 27.64 respectively in spite of a gusty head wind.

Fellow Dutchgirl senior Hannah Gehlert also won both the 1600m and 3200m runs in times of 5:55.18 and 12:56.77 respectively.

Sprinting to Owensville’s final event was the Dutchgirl 4x100m relay team of Violet Lavalle, Brianna Bodine, Emma-Lee Wehmeyer and Katsov in a first-place time of 52.64.

Also in the top seven of the girls 100m dash for Owensville were Bodine (3rd, 14.26) and LaValle (15.04).

Jordan Duncan (15th, 32.42) and Leah Hayes (19th, 33.35) also ran for OHS in the girls 200m dash along with Katsov.

Leola Hamann (13th, 3:14.72) and Meredith Reed (14th, 3:16.25) ran two laps around the track for the Dutchgirls in the girls 800m run.

Ella Davidson (8th, 6:51.76) and Morgen Schmidt (11th, 7:41.03) also competed in the girls mile for OHS.

Adding to her winning leg in the girls 4x100m relay, Wehmeyer posted second-place times of 16.79 and 48.83 respectively in the girls 100m and 300m hurdles.

Hayes also took fourth in the girls 300m hurdles in a time of 56.44.

Taking fourth in the girls 4x100m throwers relay with a time of 1:08.59 for Owensville was the team of Lexis Manning, Delyla Crowe, Rylee Dare and Kinley Troncin.

Also taking fourth was the Dutchgirl 4x200m relay team of Abbey Quilacio, Lilly Sample, Halle Engelbrecht and Duncan in a time of 2:02.31.

Earning a medal in the girls 4x800m relay for the Dutchgirls with a third-place time of 12:04.18 was the team of Cylee Reed, Davidson, Hayes and Gehlert.

Dare’s best finishing in throwing events came with a fifth-place mark of 29.70m followed by teammates Manning (17th, 22.15m) and Troncin (20th, 17.43m).

Engelbrecht also tied for fifth in the girls high jump clearing 1.35m.

Quilacio (3rd, 2.85m), Baguio (4th, 2.70m) and Lavalle (8th, 2.40m) took three of the top eight spots in the girls pole vault for the Dutchgirls.

Lavalle (3rd, 4.51m), Katsov (5th, 4.26m) and Bodine (6th, 4.23m) also made up half of the top six in the girls long jump for Owensville.

Owensville’s Dutchmen finished with 104.5 points behind St. Clair (119), Potosi (116), Borgia (109) and Fatima (108).

Zach Holtmeyer secured the lone individual event win on the track for the Dutchmen with a first-place time of 10:37.40 in the boys 3200m run.

Dylan Dietrich (3rd, 11:41.19) and Grayson Lairmore (5th, 11:41.90) also finished in the top five behind Holtmeyer.

Starting the meet with a second-place time of 9:00.74 in the boys 4x800m relay for the Dutchmen was the team of Drake Dietrich, Steven Buddemeyer, Lairmore and Holtmeyer.

Also ending the meet with a second-place time of 3:40.19 in the boys 4x400m relay for Owensville was the foursome of Charlie Katsov, Mason McDaniel, Drake Dietrich and Holtmeyer.

Andrew Budnik led Dutchmen throwers with a second-place mark of 38.19m in the boys discus while teammates Ryder Wehmeyer (8th, 31.46m) and Zayden Garver (14th, 27.02m) also threw for OHS in the boys discus.

Garver (5th, 35.61m), Wyatt Bone (7th, 34.50m) and Tyler Menz (11th, 31.72m) threw for Owensville in the boys javelin which has since been moved from the field behind Owensville Middle School (OMS) to next to where the discus is thrown between Dutchmen Field and Owensville Elementary School (OES).

Making up half of the top six in the boys pole vault from Owensville were Ricardo Marquez (2nd, 3.95m), Logan Valley (4th, 3.50m) and McDaniel (6th, 3.35m).

Katsov (13th, 12.47), Connor Wellman (16th, 12.59) and Marquez (22nd, 13.31) also sprinted down the track for OHS in the boys 100m dash.

Holtmeyer (2nd, 53.63), Bo Buddemeyer (15th, 1:00.89) and Diego Lansford (19th, 1:03.91) took a lap for the Dutchmen competing in the boys 400m dash.

Steven Buddemeyer (5th, 2:18.85), Cristopher Reyes (9th, 2:22.71) and Dominick Eikermann (19th, 2:56.76) ran twice around the track for Owensville in the boys 800m run.

Finishing within 17 seconds of each other for OHS in the boys mile were Drake Dietrich (5th, 5:19.88), Reyes (6th, 5:21.65) and Ty Price (9th, 5:36.89).

Katsov (7th, 19.22) and Evan Boyer (10th, 20.14) took on the 110m hurdles for the Dutchmen.

Sprinting to a fifth-place time of 47.97 in the boys 4x100m relay for Owensville was the foursome of Cohen Dare, Liam Rasmussen, Wellman and Marquez.

Budnik (5th, 12.90m), Bone (12th, 11.09m) and Cullen Green (18th, 9.99m) competed for OHS in the boys shot put.

OHS Track will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) in the Hermann Invitational at Bearcat Memorial Stadium.
