Come Friday night, Owensville High School will be buzzing with alumni night softball and football action.

Fall madness will kick off at 4 p.m., with Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team hosting Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs in a Highway 28 showdown at OHS Field.

While the softball game is going on, tailgating will take place in the parking lot between OHS Field and the high school prior to Randy Crowe’s Owensville Dutchmen football team opening their season against Eldon’s Mustangs with a 7 p.m., kickoff.

After a night of softball and football on Friday, Matt Candrl’s OHS Cross Country squads and Jamie Ridenhour’s volleyball Dutchgirls will get their turn to host a home event this weekend.

Candrl’s OHS harriers will host St. Francis Borgia High School and Fatima High School in a cross country tri-meet starting at 9 a.m., with only two varsity races being contested.

Ridenhour’s junior varsity and varsity Dutchgirls will host Licking’s Lady Wildcats, Cuba’s Lady Wildcats and North County’s Lady Raiders in a volleyball quad.

Two courts will be used with one for varsity matches and the other for junior varsity matches.

Starting things off at 9 a.m., will be a Highway 19 showdown between Cuba and Owensville followed at 10:15 a.m., by North County taking on Licking.

Morning volleyball will be capped at approximately 11:30 a.m., with Owensville facing North County before afternoon volleyball tips off at 12:45 p.m., with a cat fight between Licking and Cuba.

Cuba will then cap their portion of the volleyball festivities at 2 p.m., against North County before Owensville and Licking face off in an all orange and black showdown at 3:15 p.m., in the final match up of the day.

While cross country and volleyball are at home Saturday, Koppelmann’s Dutchgirl softball team will take a road trip north on Highway 63 into Moberly for the annual Moberly Softball Invitational in which they will be guaranteed three games.

Owensville will open the tournament on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m., against Marceline’s Lady Tigers before facing either North Shelby or Palmyra at 2:30 p.m., depending on the outcome of those contests.

Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls will play their final game at either 4:30 p.m., or 6:30 p.m., depending upon results of the first two games of the day.
