OHS track teams post second-place team finishes at Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CITY — Breaking triple digits in team points on both the boys and girls sides of track, Matt Candrl’s Owensville Dutchmen and Dutchgirl track squads showed what they’re capable of during last Tuesday’s Montgomery County Early Bird Invitational at Montgomery County High School.

Running her first varsity race in track and field, Dutchgirl senior Ariana Katsov topped 34 other runners over five heats with a first-place time of 13.05.

That time is the fifth-fastest in school history around a half-second behind Emma Daniels’ time of 12.52 from the 2024 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships.

Freshman Brianna Bodine also scored Dutchgirl team points with a fifth-place time of 13.49 in the girls 100m dash also putting her 10th all time in OHS history.

Ryan Miller also posted a 12th-place time of 14.38 in the girls 100m dash for the orange and black.

Freshman Leah Hays picked up a pair of Dutchgirl team points with her seventh-place time of 29.58 in the girls 200m dash.

Jordan Duncan also placed 14th in the girls 200m dash with a time of 31.88.

Senior Hannah Gehlert earned a silver medal from Montgomery County with a second-place time of 5:49.84 in the girls 1600m run while freshman Meredith Reed also placed 15th in 7:32.25.

Adding to her second-place finish in the mile, Gehlert won the girls 3200m run in a time of 12:47.39.

Picking up right where she left off at the end of her junior year, Emma-Lee Wehmeyer started her senior season off with a silver medal in the girls 100m hurdles following a second-place time of 16.88.

Hays also picked up more team points with a seventh-place time of 19.43.

Wehmeyer (2nd, 52.92) and Hays (5th, 53.94) also scored team points for the Dutchgirls in the girls 300m hurdles.

Rylee Dare (4th, 27.86m) and Lexis Manning (10th, 24.43m) put their best throwing marks of the meet in the girls discus.

Maci Armstrong (27th, 16.98m) and Delyla Crowe (29th, 14.74m) also threw for the Dutchgirls in the girls discus.

Gracelyn Raymond (32nd, 6.00m) and Lydia Wilson (33rd, 4.43m) made their season debuts for OHS’ Dutchgirls in the girls shot put.

Lilly Sample (19th, 19.69m) and Kinley Troncin (23rd, 17.49m) had their best marks of the meet in the girls javelin.

Halle Engelbrecht and Sample both cleared 1.40m in the girls high jump to place fourth and fifth respectively while also scoring team points.

Baylee Sieckmann also rounded out the top 10 in the girls high jump clearing 1.30m.

Three Dutchgirls made up the top five of the girls long jump led by Wehmeyer and Katsov both jumping 4.67m while Bodine also took fifth place in the event with a leap of 4.43m.

Abbey Quilacio (2nd, 2.60m) and Violet Lavalle (5th, 2.30m) also posted top-five finishes for OHS in the girls pole vault picking 12 more team points.

Finishing with 102 team points, the Dutchgirls placed second behind Washington’s top team-point total of 146 points.

Not to be out done by his sister, sophomore Charlie Katsov won the boys 100m dash topping the fast heat with a winning time of 11.52 making him the 10th fastest Dutchmen in the event in school history.

Senior Connor Wellman also picked up Dutchmen team points with a sixth-place time of 12.09 in the boys 100m dash.

Mason McDaniel added to the Dutchmen team point total with a sixth-place time of 25.01 in the boys 200m dash while Liam Rasmussen posted his best individual place of the meet with a 17th-place time of 26.42.

Looking to add All-State honors in track to his third state medal from cross country last fall, junior Zach Holtmeyer took a big first step towards it winning the boys 800m run in a time of 2:09.30.

Dutchmen running behind Holtmeyer in the boys 800 included Evan Reed (19th, 2:31.08), Dominick Eikermann (26th, 3:00.14) and Bradley Mounce 3:04.08).

Holtmeyer also placed second in the boys 1600m run with a time of 4:36.76.

He was joined in the top 10 by Dutchmen harriers Drake Dietrich (6th, 5:08.75) and Grayson Lairmore (10th, 5:17.16).

Dylan Dietrich also ran four laps around the track in a 13th-place time of 5:25.41.

Drake Dietrich claimed a bronze medal in the boys 3200m run for OHS with a third-place time of 11:21.73.

Adding to his win in the boys 100m dash, Charlie Katsov placed second in the boys 300m hurdles with a time of 45.48 while also posting a fourth-place time of 16.71 in the boys 110m hurdles.

Sprinting their way to a third-place time of 46.70 in the boys 4x100m relay was the Dutchmen foursome of Cohen Dare, Charlie Katsov, Wellman and Rasmussen.

Taking fourth in 1:43.18 during the boys 4x200m relay was the Owensville quartet of Steven Buddemeyer, Evan Boyer, Cohen Dare and McDaniel.

Sophomore Andrew Budnik started his road towards a varsity conference title in the boys shot put with a fifth-place throw of 11.63m.

He was followed by fellow Dutchmen throwers Wyatt Bone (11th, 10.80m), Cullen Green (26th, 9.52m) and George Wnuk (28th, 8.98m).

Improving his placement in the boys discus, Budnik took fourth with a throw of 36.45m followed in seventh place by Ryder Wehmeyer’s toss of 34.44m.

Kurt Brenner also posted his best mark of the meet with a 32nd-place throw of 18.84m in the boys discus.

Bone led three Dutchmen in the top 11 of the boys javelin with a second-place throw of 42.45m followed by Zayden Garver (6th, 35.74m) and Kien Bayless (11th, 33.43m).

Peyton Pohlmann also made his OHS track debut with a 17th-place throw of 28.48m in the boys javelin.

Three Dutchmen also made the top 11 of the boys pole vault in Logan Valley (3rd, 3.35m), Bo Buddemeyer (8th, 2.90m) and McDaniel (11th, 2.60m).

Ricardo Marquez paced four Dutchmen in the top 25 of the boys long jump placing 11th with a leap of 5.18m.

Following Marquez for OHS were Bentley Luecke (16th, 5.04m), Kylen Menz (23rd, 4.81m) and McDaniel (24th, 4.81m).

Competing Monday at the Cuba Relays, OHS Track and Field will return to action on Tuesday, April 7 hosting the OHS Open at Dutchmen Field.
