OHS tracksters claim second-place district plaques on home track

Hosting the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 3 Track Meet Saturday at Owensville High School’s Dutchmen Field, the host Dutchmen and Dutchgirls both ended the meet advancing to sectional competition next Saturday in Centralia in 19 events.

Owensville’s Dutchgirls placed second in the team standings with 114.5 points edged out by St. Francis Borgia’s first-place total of 115.5 points.

Leading the way for the Dutchgirls was junior Lilly Sample wining the girls high jump with a clearing height of 1.50m. Halle Engelbrecht also scored team points finishing tied for eighth with Winfield’s Alexis Schneider clearing 1.35m.

OHS’ Dutchgirls also qualified for sectionals in three other field events.

Abbey Quilacio (2nd, 3.05m) and Arianna Baguio (3rd, 2.65m) took half of the sectional qualifying spots in the girls pole vault for OHS.

Emma-Lee Wehmeyer leaped into sectionals with a third-place mark of 9.81m in the girls triple jump while Engelbrecht also seventh in the event with a leap of 8.93m.

Rylee Dare threw her way to another week of practice for the Dutchgirls with a fourth-place throw of 29.33m while senior Lexis Manning saw her OHS track career end following a sixth-place mark of 27.63m.

Over on the track, senior Ariana Katsov will still be in orange and black after graduation Friday night qualifying in two individual sprint events and as part of the Dutchgirl 4x100m relay team.

Katsov placed second in the girls 100m dash with a time of 12.93 while also taking fourth in the girls 200m dash in a time of 26.90.

Freshman Brianna Bodine will join Katsov in the girls 100m dash following her fourth-place time of 13.26.

Jordan Duncan scored a Dutchgirl team point with her eighth-place time of 1:08.62 in the girls 400m dash.

Senior Hannah Gehlert will get to run some more laps this week after qualifying for sectionals in both the girls 1600m and 3200m runs.

Taking second in the girls 3200m run with a time of 12:48.70, Gehlert also posted a third-place time of 5:51.29 in the girls 1600m run.

Ella Davidson also collected three Dutchgirl team points with her sixth-place time of 15:23.33 in the girls 3200m run.

Adding to her third-place leap in the girls triple jump, Wehmeyer advanced to sectionals in both hurdle events placing second in the girls 100m hurdles (15.46) and third in the girls 300m hurdles in a time of 47.94.

Freshman Leah Hays posted her best finish in the girls 100m hurdles for OHS with a sixth-place time of 18.18.

Sprinting into sectionals with a second-place time of 51.56 in the girls 4x100m relay was the Dutchgirl foursome of Violet Lavalle, Bodine, Wehmeyer and Katsov.

Just missing sectionals with a fifth-place time of 4:41.40 in the girls 4x400m relay was the OHS team of Hays, Duncan, Lavalle and Quilacio.

Scoring two Dutchgirl team points in the girls 4x800m relay with a seventh-place time of 12:13.08 was the orange and black quartet of Leola Hamann, Meredith Reed, Davidson and Gehlert.

With three cross country state medals to his credit, junior Zach Holtmeyer ran his way to two more races at sectionals following top-four finishes in both the boys 1600m and 3200m runs.

Winning the boys 3200m run in a time of 10:44.44, Holtmeyer also posted a second-place time of 4:42.47.

Drake Dietrich placed sixth in the boys 1600m run with a time of 4:59.52 while Cris Reyes also posted a sixth-place time of 11:06.80 for the Dutchmen in the boys 3200m run.

Earning another week of working on hand offs was the Dutchmen 4x200m relay team of Connor Wellman, Mason McDaniel, Logan Valley and Charlie Katsov with a third-place time of 1:34.27.

Sprinting to a fifth-place time of 47.26 in the boys 4x100m relay for OHS was the foursome of Bentley Luecke, Cohen Dare, McDaniel and Wellman.

Also placing fifth in the boys 4x400m relay with a fifth-place time of 3:40.08 was the Dutchmen squad of Steven Buddemeyer, Drake Dietrich, McDaniel and Holtmeyer.

Starting the meet on the track with a fifth-place time of 8:31.48 in the boys 4x800m relay was the orange and black quartet of Grayson Lairmore, Drake Dietrich, Steven Buddemeyer and Holtmeyer.

Owensville’s Dutchmen also advanced to sectionals in three field events led by Andrew Budnik’s second-place throw of 13.24m in the boys shot put while Tucker Crosby also booked passage to sectionals with a fourth-place mark of 12.43m.

Wyatt Bone also threw his way to another week of practice following a fourth-place throw of 43.62m in the boys javelin while Zayden Garver also posted a 10th-place throw of 36.46m.

Adding to his leg of the boys 4x200m relay, Valley punched an individual sectional ticket placing fourth in the boys pole vault clearing 3.60m.

Senior Coleton Connor ended his OHS track and field career earning a Dutchmen team point clearing 1.63m in the boys high jump good for eighth place.

Bo Buddemeyer ended his freshman season of OHS track with a ninth-place leap of 10.94m in the boys triple jump.

Charlie Katsov advanced to sectionals with a third-place time of 16.45 in the boys 110m hurdles while Evan Boyer posted a fifth-place time of 19.35.

Christopher Kroon booked passage to sectionals with a fourth-place time of 44.14 while Katsov placed fifth in 44.88 during the boys 300m hurdles.

OHS Track and Field athletes competing this Saturday in one of four MSHSAA Class 3 sectional track meets at Centralia High School will be looking for more top-four finishes to advance to state over Memorial Day weekend in Jefferson City.
