ROLLA — Once action on all five mats concluded at Rolla High School Saturday during the Noel Tough as Nails varsity girls and Haskell JV Boys Wrestling Tournaments, a total of 12 Owensville varsity Dutchgirl and JV Dutchmen wrestlers came home with medals for top-three finishes in their respective weight classes.
Placing eighth as a team with 98 points, Brandon Howard’s Owensville Dutchgirls were led by Payton Busenhart who placed second at 110 pounds after being pinned in the championship match by Hillcrest’s Isabella Plotke.
Busenhart advanced to the championship bout after winning a 19-9 major decision over Hillcrest’s Madalee Gress.
Freshman Brianna Bodine left Rolla with a third-place medal after winning a 7-2 decision over Pacific’s Madelyn Rush in the third-place match at 100 pounds.
Winning a 14-2 major decision over Southern Boone’s Imogene Cooper in the quarterfinals, Bodine was pinned in the semifinals by Blair Oaks’ Macie Kempker before pinning Bolivar’s Shyanne Downs to advance to the third-place match.
Rylee Dare secured the final medal for the Dutchgirls pinning Osage’s Hannah See in the third-place match at 145 pounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Dare defeated See by injury default in the quarterfinals before being pinned in the semifinals by Capital City’s Athena Anderson.
Dare advanced to the third-place match with a win by fall in the consolation semifinals over Hillcrest’s Tailynn Pohlsander.
Violet Lavalle placed sixth at 130 pounds with her lone win Saturday coming in the quarterfinals by fall over Waynesville’s Skylar Larsen.
Lexis Manning pinned her way to fifth place at 170 pounds with wins by fall over Jerseyville’s Lettie VanAllman, West Plains’ Aria Jacobs and Hillcrest’s Clara Dameron.
Brooke Tainter saw her tournament end with a loss by fall in the second round of wrestle backs at 155 pounds.
JV Dutchmen at Rolla
While their varsity Dutchgirl counterparts placed eighth as a team, Dustin Howard’s Owensville JV Dutchmen wrestlers placed sixth in the team standings at Rolla with 128.5 points behind Waynesville (276.5), Rolla (196), Hillcrest (175.5), Branson (161.5) and Lebanon (140.5).
Grayson Lairmore quickly claimed Owensville’s first gold medal of the tournament winning the 120D weight class with two wins by fall and a win by technical fall over Sullivan’s Chase Roland.
Jaxon Lowe also left Rolla with a first-place medal in the 138C weight class with wins by fall over Mexico’s Erick Pech and Pacific’s Parker Meyers before winning a 9-6 decision over Waynesville’s Jameir Washington.
Peyton Pohlmann made it three JV Dutchmen champions winning the 157C weight class with a win by fall over Pacific’s Conan Cancienne and a 14-2 major decision over Waynesville’s Tristan Bobbio.
Logan Kiesling had to wrestle all three of his matches to full time in the 190B weight class.
Kiesling won his gold medal with decision wins over Hillcrest’s Michael VanBeek (5-1) and West Plains’ Trevor Dickson (11-4) in addition to a 9-0 major decision over Pacific’s Fynn Collard.
Connor Henderson won all four of his matches to claim gold in the 190E weight class with wins by fall over Steelville’s Bentley Hicks, Sullivan’s James Mattingly and Liberty’s (Wentzville) Aidan Hodge.
Henderson also won a 12-6 decision over Central Park Hills’ Cylar Politte.
Will Coppedge claimed silver in the 165A weight class with two wins by fall over Hillcrest’s LeAnthony Smith and Bolivar’s Carter Ryan in addition to a 2-0 decision over Hickman’s Ne Reh.
Kien Bayless also placed second in the 175E weight class with a win by fall over Rolla’s Ben Casey and a 3-0 decision over Bolivar’s Dean Morgan.
Cayson Faulkner placed third in the 126E weight class winning a 5-4 decision over Branson’s Freedom Kessler while Diego Lansford also placed third in the 132C weight class with wins by fall over Eldon’s Trevor Stonestreet and Capital City’s Cade Lowe.
Rylee Schuchardt took fourth place in the 215C weight class with a win by medical forfeit over Lebanon’s Anson Cooper.
Bradley Lewis rounded out Owensville’s contingency of JV Dutchmen wrestlers placing fifth in the 175F weight class after a win by disqualification over Waynesville’s Rocco Chapman.
