Owensville High School (OHS) wrestlers coached by Brandon and Dustin Howard were able to get matches in late last week in spite of Winter Storm Fern’s remnants canceling a home dual scheduled for last Tuesday night.
Both the Dutchmen and Dutchgirl wrestlers competed in a tri-meet at School of the Osage against the host Indians and Fulton Hornets while Brandon’s Dutchgirls competed in the Seckman Girls Wrestling Tournament over the weekend.
Taking 10 Dutchgirl wrestlers to Seckman, they were led by Rylee Dare who placed second in the 145A weight class with a win by fall over Dexter’s Fatima Gonzalez (2:58) and a 10-1 victory by major decision over Rockwood Summit’s Jasmine Lopez.
In the 125B bracket, Violet Lavalle placed third with wins by fall over Jackson’s Mayce Novak (3:43), Washington’s Payton Moritz (3:59) and Seckman’s Madilyn Hill (2:59).
Maci Armstrong also posted a third-place finish in the 190C weight class with wins by fall over Owensville’s Emily Tune (2:37) and Fatima’s Emillie Bonnot (3:25).
In spite of losing three matches by fall, Dutchgirl freshman Brianna Bodine placed fourth in the 100A weight class.
Anieya Bergesch captured fifth place in the 120B weight class with wins by fall over Francis Howell’s Aliza Farooqui (1:07), Fort Zumwalt West’s Avery Peace (5:54) and Fatima’s Renee Wilbers (1:08).
Aaliyah Taylor also placed fifth in the 155C weight class with a win by medical forfeit over Affton’s Claire Troske and a win by fall in the fifth-place match over Fox’s Yamileth Jaramillo Hernandez in 2:14.
Emily Tune was Owensville’s third fifth-place finisher at Seckman in the 190C weight class with a win by fall over Francis Howell’s Chloe Henry in 3:33.
Madalynn Thomas took seventh place in the 170C weight class with wins by fall over Wright City’s Annalynn Adams (1:52) and Orchard Farm’s Teagan Odegaard (1:46).
Brooke Tainter placed 12th in the 155B weight class after being injured two matches into her tournament.
Hadlee Ketcherside placed 10th in the 170C weight class after drawing a pair of byes following three losses.
OHS at Osage
Competing in a tri-meet at School of the Osage last Thursday night, Dustin’s Owensville Dutchmen won both duals by scores of 45-30 over Fulton and 41-40 over Osage.
Brandon’s Dutchgirls split their duals with a 36-18 triumph over Fulton and a 24-16 loss to Osage.
Against Fulton, Dutchgirl scoring wins by forfeit included Bodine, Lavalle, Dare, Taylor, Ketcherside and Armstrong.
Facing Osage, Bodine won her match by fall at 100 pounds over Cali Glover in 1:14 while Tune scored a win by forfeit.
Dare capped Owensville’s team scoring against Osage winning a 16-6 major decision over Hannah See.
Stinging the Hornets 45-30, Dustin’s Dutchmen got a win by forfeit from Cayson Faulkner (126) in addition to wins by fall from Diego Lansford in :55 at 132 pounds, Steven Buddemeyer at 138 pounds in 1:23, Bo Buddemeyer at 144 pounds in :58, Liam Rasmussen at 150 pounds in :43, Cael Walker at 190 pounds in 1:31 and Henry Loeb at 285 pounds in 1:17.
Zach Barch also won his bout at 165 pounds via a 2-1 overtime decision.
Connor Henderson also won his exhibition match at 190 pounds by fall in 1:20.
Facing the host Indians, Owensville overcame three open weight classes to edge Osage 41-40.
Scoring wins by fall were Faulkner (5:46), Steven Buddemeyer (:49), Bo Buddemeyer (1:53), Keagon Schatz at 157 pounds in 2:30 and Walker in :28.
Will Coppedge also won by technical fall at 174 pounds while Loeb earned a win by forfeit with Osage being open at 285 pounds.
Exhibition matches against Osage saw Mason Turner win by technical fall at 144 pounds while Bradley Lewis also won by fall in 2:36 at 190 pounds.
