Owensville High School (OHS) Dutchmen and Dutchgirl wrestlers encountered a busy three-day stretch of action last week with wrestling action at Southern Boone High School, Central (Park Hills) High School and Pacific High School.
In a tri-meet at Southern Boone in Ashland against the host Eagles and Eldon’s Mustangs, Dustin Howard’s Owensville Dutchmen posted a 45-24 team dual win over the Mustangs behind wins by forfeit from Grayson Lairmore (120), Diego Lansford (132), Peyton Pohlmann (157) and Zach Barch (165).
Picking up contested victories for the Dutchmen were Steven Buddemeyer at 138 pounds with a win by fall over Landon Green in 1:42 along with Mason Turner at 144 pounds over Grayson Conner in 3:51.
Liam Rasmussen also won a 10-3 decision at 150 pounds over Nollan Kidd.
Payten Pendleton also pinned Tristan Weyer in 2:31 at 285 pounds for Owensville against Eldon.
Cayson Faulkner (126), Will Coppedge (175) and Cael Walker (190) each suffered losses by fall.
Falling 30-0 against Eldon’s Lady Mustangs, Brandon Howard’s Owensville Dutchgirl grapplers suffered a 24-9 setback in spite of a win by fall from Alexis Manning in 2:46 at 170 pounds and Payton Busenhart winning a 6-2 decision at 110 pounds.
Varsity Dutchgirls at Park Hills
Last Friday at the Central (Park Hills) Lady Rebel Invitational, Owensville’s Dutchgirls placed fifth as a team with 89 points finishing behind Ste. Genevieve (270.5), Pattonville (145.5), Pacific (95.5) and Sullivan (93.5).
Freshman Brianna Bodine led the way for the Dutchgirls placing second at 100 pounds with wins by fall over Seckman’s Viento Hernandez (:11) and Kennett’s Riley Harrell (1:18) advancing her to the championship match against Ste. Genevieve’s Lexi Wolk.
Bodine settled for second place after losing by technical fall 24-7 to Wolk.
Rylee Dare was the next Dutchgirl to leave Park Hills with a medal placing third at 145 pounds following a win by fall over Pacific’s Sofia Krehmeyer in 4:40 in the third-place match.
Dare also posted wins by fall earlier in the tournament in :55 over Ste. Genevieve’s Kathryn Herzog and in :37 over Sullivan’s Lily Cook.
Anieya Bergesch took fourth place at 120 pounds for the Dutchgirls after losing by fall in 1:45 against Kennett’s Heather Jones in the third-place match.
Bergesch opened the tournament winning an 8-2 decision over Potosi’s Kadence Vance before posting wins by fall over Pacific’s Joie Shirey (4:06), North County’s Riley Jarvis (1:39) and Webster Groves’ Amelia Beatty (1:32).
Manning also placed fourth at 170 pounds after a loss by fall in 1:00 to Webster Groves’ Chloe Vincent in the third-place match.
Prior to the third-place match, Manning had wins by fall over Farmington’s Kamryn Kennedy (:21), Seckman’s Bailee Stuart (1:46), Dexter’s Taylinn Conn-Harris (2:03) and Kennett’s Kierra Thompson (1:52).
Busenhart also placed sixth at 110 pounds in Lady Rebel country following a loss by fall in 4:14 against Gateway Science Charter’s Jennifer Alvarez in the fifth-place match.
Battling back to the fifth-place match through the consolation rounds, Busenhart won a 4-1 decision over Potosi’s Lilly Johnson and an 18-8 major decision over Oakville’s Aymie Mayes.
Brooke Tainter posted a win by fall over Notre Dame’s (Cape Girardeau) Caroline Dawson in 2:34 before being eliminated with a loss by fall in the second round of the consolation bracket at 155 pounds.
Maci Armstrong drew a bye to the second round of wrestlebacks before seeing her tournament end with a loss by fall at 190 pounds.
Madalynn Thomas competed in the 170B weight class posting a win by fall over Kelly’s Hayden Carmack in 3:27 before being eliminated in the next round after a loss by fall.
JV Dutchmen at Pacific
Capping a busy three-day stretch for OHS wrestlers, six JV Dutchmen grapplers hit the mats throughout the day Saturday at the Pacific JV Wrestling Tournament.
Lansford placed fifth for the orange and black at 132 pounds with a win by fall over Washington’s Daniel Broadbent in 5:12 during the fifth-place match.
He also posted wins by fall over Washington’s Brody Pruett (:23) and Liberty’s (Wentzville) Chase Lumia in :28.
Payten Pendleton also placed fifth at 285 pounds winning a 10-2 major decision over Washington’s Trevor Pope in the fifth-place match.
Pendleton also earned wins by fall over Union’s Caleb Kissinger in 2:22 and Webster Groves’ Ben Borders in :29.
Grayson Lairmore posted a sixth-place finish at 120 pounds after losing the fifth-place match by fall in 1:30 against Webster Groves’ Patton Calame.
Lairmore posted wins by fall prior to the fifth-place match against Sullivan’s Chase Roland in 3:48 and Fort Zumwalt North’s Liam Schrautemeier in 3:56.
Peyton Pohlmann also placed sixth at 157 pounds following a loss in his fifth-place match by fall in 5:10 to St. Charles’ Blake Hart.
Pohlmann earned wins by fall over Rockwood Summit’s Dawson Thompson in :29 and Webster Groves’ Jaden Young in 2:50.
He also earned a 15-0 win by technical fall over Rolla’s Justus Fuhs.
Jaxon Lowe pinned Pacific’s Parker Meyers in 1:19 and St. Charles’ Connor Rhoads in :58 before losing his final two matches by medical forfeit to settle for eighth place at 138 pounds.
Rounding out the contingency of JV Dutchmen wrestlers in Pacific was Connor Henderson at 175 pounds.
Henderson pinned Pacific’s Alejandro Gomez in 3:57 and Festus’ James Irby in :54 before settling for 10th place after a loss by fall to Liberty’s (Wentzville) Gerhardt Hardebeck in 1:05.
After competing yesterday (Tuesday) in the annual Four Rivers Conference (FRC) Tournament at Pacific, Howard’s varsity Dutchmen wrestlers will host their annual home tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17 beginning at 9 a.m., after holding their annual home JV Tournament the previous night on Friday, Jan. 16 at OHS beginning at 4 p.m.
Owensville’s Dutchgirls will also return to action next Tuesday in a tri-meet at St. Francis Borgia following their FRC Tournament yesterday (Tuesday) in Pacific.
