OMS Dutchgirl basketball sweeps Hermann, Steelville

Owensville Middle School (OMS) Dutchgirl basketball opened their season last week with four games in four days against Hermann, Sullivan, Steelville and Cuba.

Savannah Campbell’s OMS seventh-grade Dutchgirls went 4-0 on the week while Matt Kramme’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls went 2-2 with victories over Hermann and Steelville while falling to Cuba and Sullivan on the road.

Hosting Hermann’s Lady Bearcats last Monday at Owensville Elementary School (OES), Owensville turned a 37-3 halftime lead in seventh-grade action into a 61-10 victory behind 21 points from Adre Leach.

Bella Daniels also reached double figures with 16 points followed by 10 points from Lydia Schaning.

Madison Thompson nearly made it four Dutchgirls in double figures finishing with eight points for the orange and black.

Brynn Poggas scored all four of her points in the first quarter while Ale Leach capped the Owensville scoring against Hermann with a third-quarter bucket for two points.

Austyn Thurman led Hermann with eight points followed by two markers from Kenzie Bader.

In eighth-grade action, Owensville led Hermann 6-5 after one quarter and 14-10 at halftime.

During the second half, the orange and black overcame a two-point fourth quarter to hold on for a 26-23 victory.

Lexi Ragain led Kramme’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls with seven points followed closely with five points apiece out of Ellie Albright and Addi Meyer.

Ella Niederer scored all four of her points in the second half to go along with three points from Jolie Vandegriffe and two points from Alexis Christensen in the first quarter.

Last Wednesday at home against Steelville, Campbell’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls scored the first 22 points of the game helping them go on to a 50-15 victory behind Daniels scoring 12 of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter.

Schaning also reached double figures scoring six of her 10 points in the first quarter.

Adre Leach and Poggas each added nine points to go along with Thompson’s six points all in the second quarter.

Ale Leach rounded out the Dutchgirl scoring against Steelville with two points in the second quarter.

Kramme’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls got a 3-pointer from Ragain midway through overtime of their 32-30 win over Steelville that needed two extra minutes to decide a winner.

Niederer led the eighth-grade Dutchgirls scoring six of her team-high eight points in the second half while Albright also scored all seven of her points in the second half.

Vandegriffe chipped in six points to go along with four points from Christensen.

In addition to Ragain’s 3-pointer in overtime, Kambria Krupp and Meyer each added two points.

Owensville’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls also defeated Sullivan (41-15) and Cuba (60-17) while their eighth-grade counterparts had mixed results falling 38-6 against Sullivan while posting a 32-18 win over Cuba.
