ST. JAMES — Last Wednesday afternoon, Owensville Middle School (OMS) Dutchmen basketball teams coached by Jarett Payne and Shane Hunt ventured to St. James Middle School for the annual daytime doubleheader between the two schools.
Falling 58-19 in seventh-grade action, Owensville’s eighth-grade Dutchmen led 19-15 at halftime before a 13-2 third-quarter run helped the orange and black pull away for a 40-30 victory splitting the twin bill.
Trace Lange led the orange and black with 11 points to go along with seven each from Ivan Phillips and Brayden Oldfather.
Will Brune and Ricky Ringeisen each followed with six points while Josiah Gehlert rounded out the eighth-grade Dutchmen scoring at St. James with a second-quarter 3-pointer for three points.
Held to six first-half points, Payne’s seventh-grade Dutchmen simply had no answer for a offensive and defensive dominant St. James squad.
Barrett Knight led the Dutchmen with eight points including the game’s first points on a 3-pointer giving the orange and black a brief 3-0 lead in the opening moments of the first quarter.
Matthew Allen added all four of his points in the fourth quarter while Logan Meyer hit a second-quarter 3-pointer for three pointers.
Nathan Dobbs and Brock Schneider each scored two points rounding out the seventh-grade Dutchmen scoring at St. James.
OMS Dutchmen vs. St. Clair
Hosting St. Clair’s Bulldogs last Monday inside the Owensville Elementary School (OES) gym, both Dutchmen squads dropped a pair of close decisions by scores of 43-42 in seventh-grade action and 38-32 in the eighth-grade contest.
Oldfather led the 8th grade Dutchmen with 10 points followed by six markers each from the trio of Brune, Lange and Ringeisen.
Jace Duerr and Phillips both scored two points rounding out the orange and black scoring against St. Clair.
Schneider led Payne’s seventh-grade Dutchmen with a team-high 13 points in addition to nine points from Nathan Dobbs.
OMS also got seven points apiece from Atticus Budnik and Grayson Kelley.
Meyer capped the seventh-grade Dutchmen scoring netting all six of his points in the second half.
Idle for the rest of 2025, OMS Dutchmen basketball will open the 2026 portion of their season on Wednesday, Jan. 7 hosting Pacific’s Indians at OES with a 5:30 p.m., tip time for seventh-grade action.
