UNION — Closing their season last month at the Union Middle School Relays inside Union High School’s E.A. Stierberger Stadium, Owensville Middle School (OMS) track and field athletes coached by Matt Candrl wound up breaking three school records while posting top-10 times or marks in numerous other events.
Saving his best for last, OMS eighth grader Seth Mitcham won the boys 200-meter dash in a new record time of 25.10 breaking the old record of 25.29 ran by Dustin Faragher ran during the 2014 Hermann Middle School (HMS) Relays.
Mitcham also sprinted into the top 10 in OMS history with a time of 12.30 in the boys 100m dash from the Blair Oaks Middle School Invitational.
That record is currently held by the late Jason Kottwitz with a time of 11.7 from a 2008 track meet at Hermann Middle School.
OMS distance runner Robbie Rodriguez nearly joined Mitcham in the record-breaking department at Union.
Posting a time of 2:17.87, Rodriguez put himself in second place all time in the boys 800m run behind Daniel Herrera’s time of 2:17.07 from the 2012 UMS Relays.

Terry Nowack is the current record holder in the boys 100m hurdles with a time of 15.1 dating back to the 1989 OMS Relays.

OMS’ squad of Ricky Ringeisen, Kison Curtman, Mitcham and Duerr posted a time of 1:45.32 putting them seventh all time in the boys 4x200m relay among OMS track athletes.
One has to go back to 2014 to find the current record holders of the event in the team of Wyatt Ellis, Sean Irwin, Tanner Rector and Faragher in a time of 1:40.67 from the 2014 Cuba MS Invitational.
Rodriguez and Lange earned another place in OMS track and field history as part of the boys 4x400m relay.
Finishing in a time of 4:05.93 at the Hermann MS Relays, the team of Roman Crowe, Davey Nichols, Lange and Rodriguez posted the ninth-fastest time in OMS history.
