Patrolling the shortstop position last fall as one of two seniors on Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball roster, Claire Oswalt will continue her academic and athletic pursuits this fall as a member of the Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartan softball team out of St. Louis.
Earning First-Team honors from the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 2 Tournament coaches and the Four Rivers Conference, Oswalt led the Dutchgirls in eight statistical categories last fall.
Oswalt led the Dutchgirls in batting average (.451), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.318), slugging percentage (.746), doubles (12), triples (3), home runs (1), runs batted in (31) and hit-by-pitches (6).
Achieving 10 multi-hit games, Oswalt two singles against Sullivan and Wright City while also recording two doubles in action against Palmyra, Southern Boone and Union.
Her biggest swing came in the first round of districts when she hit a grand slam home run against St. Clair sparking the Dutchgirls to a 15-0 opening-round victory.
Other action that Oswalt had two hits came against Rolla, Nixa, Wright City and their other showdown with St. Clair during the regular season.
Oswalt’s team-leading three triples came in action against Westran, Rolla and St. Clair.
Scoring a run in eight games, Oswalt crossed the plate in action against Palmyra, Dixon, Hermann, Union, Pacific, Southern Boone, South Callaway and St. Clair.
Also patient at the plate, Oswalt walked twice in contests against Vienna, St. James, St. Clair, Cuba, Montgomery County and Wright City.
Among her six hit-by-pitches, Oswalt was hit a season-high two times against St. James.
During her junior season, Oswalt led the Dutchgirls with seven doubles and three triples while also second on the team in runs scored (27) and hit by pitches (4).
She was also third on the squad in OPS (1.092), slugging percentage (.613), hits (25), RBI (13) and stolen bases (5).
Oswalt’s best game during her junior season came against with three hits (all singles), two RBIs, five runs scored and two walks.
Also recording three hits against Wright City, Oswalt hit for two of her seven team-leading doubles against Palmyra at the Moberly Softball Tournament.
Accounting for her team-leading three triples, Oswalt had one apiece in action against Palmyra, Monroe City and Vienna.
In addition to the Cuba contest, Oswalt also had two RBIs in action against Wright City, Pacific and Palmyra twice.
In a carbon copy of her senior season, Oswalt was also hit by a pitch twice during action against St. James.
She also swiped two bases during the Moberly Softball Tournament in contest against a pair of northeast Missouri Lady Panther squads from Palmyra and Monroe City.
