Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball trio earns postseason honors

In spite of their season ending at the hands of eventual district runner-up Sullivan on their home court, Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team saw three of their players earn postseason recognition from the coaches of the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) and the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 9 Volleyball Tournament.

Senior libero McKenna Edwards was selected to the All-District First Team and the All-FRC Second Team.

Amassing 502 digs during her senior season, Edwards reached double digits in that statistical category in all but six of her matches.

She recorded a career-high 33 digs on the road at New Haven in addition to racking up 30 digs against Rolla’s Lady Bulldogs.

Her 502 digs ranked her eighth among MSHSAA Class 3 volleyball players according to Maxpreps.com.

Showing her versatility on the court, Edwards dished out 13 assists with her recording a season-high two in matches against Linn, Fatima and Union.

From behind the serving line, Edwards racked up 46 aces. She served up a career-high eight aces in Owensville’s five-set loss to Sullivan during regular-season action in early October.

In addition to Edwards garnering All-District First Team honors, seniors McKenzy Echols and Ally Gooch were both named to the All-District Second Team.

All over the court on any given night, Gooch recorded a season-high six kills in three matches against Belle, Linn and North County.

She also served up five aces on two occasions against Bowling Green and North County.

Getting up at the net, Gooch had one block in matches against Fulton, North County and Sullivan.

Gooch also showed her digging abilities reaching double digits in five matches.

Her season-high in the dig department came against Sullivan with 13 followed closely by 12 at North County. She also turned in 10 digs in matches against Belle, Salem and Rolla.

Shining the best in the assist department, Gooch reached double figures in assists during 17 matches.

Her season high of 27 assists came in their five-set victory over Linn closing the month of August.

She also racked up 26 dimes against New Haven to go along with 24 assists at Salem and 20 assists apiece against Rolla ND Sullivan.

Echols was among the team leaders in kills reaching double digits in six matches.

Her season-high came against Linn with 16 kills followed by 12 against Salem.

She also recorded 11 kills twice against Rolla and North County to go with 10-kill efforts against Sullivan and New Haven.

In the ace department, Echols served up a season-high four aces against Wright City.

Reaching double digits in dig twice, Echols compiled a season-high 12 digs against Fatima followed closely by an 11-dig effort against Capital City.

Dishing out four assists, Echols had one in two matches against Washington in addition to one against New Haven and Linn.

Recording five blocks, Echols recorded one in two matches against Rolla in addition to one in action against Sullivan, Hermann and St. Clair.
