Seeing their seventh-grade counterparts hold off Hermann during a 26-21 victory last Monday night, Shane Hunt’s Owensville Middle School (OMS) eighth-grade Dutchmen basketball team went for the doubleheader sweep inside the Owensville Elementary School (OES) gym against the visiting Hermann Bearcats

Leading 12-11 with 3:17 until halftime on a Brayden Oldfather bucket, Owensville was then outscored 36-5 the rest of the way during their eventual 47-17 loss to Hermann.

Oldfather went on to lead the Dutchmen on offense with eight points, seven rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot.

Trace Lange scored all six of his points in the first quarter while also adding four rebounds and two steals to his point total.

Ricky Ringeisen added two points to the Dutchmen scoring column while also grabbing six rebounds.

Will Brune rounded out the eighth-grade Dutchmen scoring with one point on a third-quarter free throw.

Miles Eikermann and Will Schutt each led the Bearcats with 10 points apiece.

Schutt added five rebounds, four steal and two assists to his point total.

Eikermann dished out a team-leading five assists to go along with four steals and two rebounds in addition to his 10 points.

7th grade Dutchmen vs. Hermann

Racing out to a 13-0 lead after one quarter, Jarret Payne’s seventh-grade Dutchmen appeared in position to post a double-digit victory against Hermann’s Bearcats.

Leading 18-0 on a Matthew Allen bucket with 3:42 until halftime, Owensville went cold on offense the rest of the second quarter seeing Hermann score the final 12 points of the first half trimming the Dutchmen halftime lead to six points at 18-12.

Grayson Kelley connected on a trio of 3-point shots giving him nine first-half points to lead the Dutchmen and all scorers.

Missing all eight shots they took from the field in the third quarter, free throws from Barrett Knight and Brock Schneider helped the orange and black enter the third quarter with a slim 20-19 lead over the visiting Bearcats.

Another Schneider free throw and a Knight bucket near the midway point of the fourth quarter gave the Dutchmen enough breathing room to hold on for a 26-21 victory.

Knight and Kelley both led the orange and black with 10 points apiece.

Kelley added four rebounds and three steals to his double-digit point total while Knight collected four steals and four rebounds to go with his 10 points.

Schneider added three points and a team-high six rebounds while Allen came off the bench to contribute two points and three steals.

Logan Meyer capped the Dutchmen scoring against Hermann with a point on a fourth-quarter free throw to go along with three steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Mason Roche and Jaxon Kallmeyer each paced the Bearcats with six points apiece.

Kallmeyer added five rebounds and two assists to his six points while Roche also had three steals and three rebounds.

OMS Dutchmen road action from Rolla and Sullivan will be recapped in next week’s Republican along with their final home game of the season tomorrow (Thursday) night against St. James.
