Phyllis Ann Murta, 85, Mexico, passed away on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at the King’s Daughters Home.
She was born on February 15, 1936, to George and Flora (Stock) Landwehr in Bem.
She was united in marriage to Robert Murta, on August 20, 1955, in Bem.
Phyllis graduated from Lincoln University. She taught Physical Education at Mexico High School and was loved by her students. She also later managed three retail stores, The Children’s World, Jr. Racque and the Maternity Boutique. She sold real estate for Botts and McCue, Caldwell Banker, Longo Group and Century 21. Phyllis received several awards and recognitions for her many accomplishments.
She was a member of the Mexico United Methodist Church. She served as President of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the Village Square Association.
Phyllis loved to tell a good joke and enjoyed a good rib eye. But most of all, she dearly loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents George and Flora; sister, Doris Green; and brothers, Wayne, Robert, Maurice, Ralph and Carl Landwehr.
She is survived by husband, Robert, of nearly 66 years; son, Philip Murta and friend Barbara Kehl of Mexico; daughter, Amy and Todd Menefee of Columbia; sisters, Lois Ruffner of Bem; sister Barbie Schroepfer of Washington; sister-in-law, Sandy Landwehr; goddaughter, Debbie Adams; grandsons, Jacob Murta, Ross Menefee and Quintin Menefee; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico. Memorial Services will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Eric Mattson officiating.
