The Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education approved $57,473.56 in expenditures on Monday night to improve the district’s assets and security.

The board of education began the process last month and approved a bid on Monday night to pour concrete for a new basketball court at the Administration Building.

Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy said prior to the Casey’s Convenience Store project that the basketball court at the Admin Building was well-used. The board consensus has always been to replace the court. It went out for bid last month.

“We received three bids for the concrete basketball court at the Administration Building office,” Hardy said.

Bids were from Jahnsen Construction, MDC Concrete, and No Limit Contracting. The board chose Jahnsen Construction at $15,900 as the lowest and best bidder with a 7-0 vote.

Concrete slab bids came in at $6,180 per slab for playground pavilions at Owensville Elementary School and Gerald Elementary School. They were approved with a 7-0 vote from MDC Concrete.

A much-needed imagining management software upgrade was awarded to CDW-G for $29,213.56 with a 7-0 vote.

Another $26,995 was awarded to CDW-G to upgrade the district’s firewall with a 7-0 vote.

Last month, district administrators shared their frustration with the current system and how it had to be rebooted every so often so the firewall could restart.

The board also approved the following resignations with a 7-0 vote: Melanie Adkison, OMS full-time substitute teacher, effective Oct. 31 and Tabetha Jones, effective Oct. 16 OES RTI aide.

Other employee decisions were approved with 7-0 votes, including Adrienne Gonzalez who was granted tenure beginning Jan. 1, 2024, with a 7-0 vote.

The substitute list was approved as present+6856+ed, pending clear background checks, training and completed paperwork for the 2023-24 school year.

Employments were approved for Alyssa Castillo, full-time substitute bus driver and Sherri Mistler, OHS personal aide, pending clear background check, reference check, training and completed paperwork for the 2023-24 school year.
