The Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education on March 6 accepted the resignation of School Resource Officer (SRO) Ike Herbel during a special board budget workshop with a 6-0 vote.

Herbel, who is leaving the position in good standing, resigned to assist his family while his wife pursued an advanced career in nursing. His resignation was effective March 11, and the position is now open.

The board also accepted the following resignations with a 6-0 vote: Heather Ryerson, Owensville Middle School (OMS) full-time substitute, effective March 12; Irma Lottmann, Owensville High School (OHS) cook, effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year; and Katelyn Keeling, Owensville Elementary School (OES) evening custodian, effective Feb. 29.

The following employments were accepted with a 6-0 vote: Greg Carpenter for OHS part-time custodian for the 2023-24 school year; Melinda Chavez for Gerald Elementary School (GES) evening custodian, pending clear background check, training, and complete paperwork for the 2023-24 school year; Connie Hupfeld for OES evening custodian for the 2023-24 school year; Blake Perkins for OMS evening custodian, pending clear background check, training and completed paperwork for the 2023-24 school year; and Laura Muller for OHS science teacher, pending clear background check, training and completed paperwork for the 2024-25 school year.

The board held a second special meeting on March 12 to interview three candidates to replace OMS Principal Teresa Schulte with plans to offer the position to someone the same evening. The future OMS principal was not known at deadline.
