Robert Ellis Henson, D.O., 87, of Hermann, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.

He was born Sept. 3, 1936, the son of the late Ellis Thomas Henson and Mabel (Oliver) Blohm in Iola, Kan.

He was the widower of Roberta Ann (Pryor) Henson. They were united in marriage Nov. 26, 1960, in Scammon, Kan. Together they had four children. Roberta preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 2011.

Robert was a member of St. George Church in Hermann; the Hermann Lions Club; was the founding member of the Frene Investment Club; Hermann Area District Hospital Foundation President; Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons past president; was a fellow of American College of Osteopathic Surgeons; was on the Board of Directors for Bay-Hermann Berger Bank, now Missouri Bank; founding member of Loutre Shore Country Club; and member of Pheasant Farm LLC-Hunting Group, Red Eye Fishing Group and of the American Cut Glass Association.

Robert was a family practice physician and surgeon and was a partner in Hermann Medical Arts. He was also a staff physician and surgeon at Hermann Area District Hospital from 1967 to 2010. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, investing, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by parents, Ellis and Mabel; wife, Roberta; and sister, Sharon Leach.

Robert is survived by sons, Robert Henson II, M.D. and wife Kim of Denver, Colo., and Ross Henson of Hermann; daughters, Rene’ Bana and husband Kirk of Wentzville, and Rona Coltman and husband Brad of Lake Geneva, Wis.; grandchildren, Ross and Thomas Henson of Hermann, Heath and Heather Bana of Wentzville, and Emma, Esther and Ella Coltman of Lake Geneva, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2–8 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. at St. George Church, Hermann, with Father Philip Niekamp officiating.

Burial will be at St. George Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hermann Area District Hospital Foundation or St. George Church.
