Slow starts doom Lady Bearcats during Rumble on the River in Illinois

QUINCY, Ill. — Falling 53-46 to Liberty’s (Ill.) Lady Eagles Friday afternoon during the Rumble on the River Shootout in Quincy, Ill., on the campus of John Wood Community College (JWCC), Ashley Aaron’s Hermann’s Lady Bearcats looked to salvage one win during their trip into the Land of Lincoln with a Saturday victory over the Unity (Ill.) Lady Mustangs.

Trailing 24-13 at halftime, Hermann made countless runs getting the deficit back into single digits only to see Unity have an answer every time before suffering a 50-38 setback Saturday afternoon against the Lady Mustangs.

Andrea Van Booven led the Lady Bearcats with 15 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Kimber Hale and Brynlee Ash each added seven points while Kealie Lane scored all five of her points in the first half.

Madyson Yates rounded out the Hermann scoring against Unity with two points and six rebounds.

Before Lane fouled out in the final seconds, she added a team-high seven rebounds, three steals and two assists to her seven points.

Saylor Berry led three Unity Lady Mustangs in double figures with 16 points.

Kodi Duke (12) and Morgan Arnsman (11) also scored in double digits for Unity.

Lady Bearcats vs Liberty

Four days removed from a 43-35 road loss at Warrenton, Aaron’s Hermann Lady Bearcats continued their stretch of three consecutive road games ending the 2025 portion of their season taking on Liberty’s (Ill.) Lady Eagles Friday afternoon in the Rumble on the River Shootout on the JWCC campus.

Finding themselves down 15-2 in the first quarter, Hermann constantly chipped away throughout the game only to eventually find themselves on the short end of a 53-46 final score.

Lane led the way for Hermann against Liberty with 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Ash nearly made it two Lady Bearcats in double figures against the Lady Eagles scoring seven of her nine points in the second half.

Hale added eight points and two steals to go along with six points and six rebounds apiece from Andrea Van Booven and Yates.

Victoria Van Booven rounded out the Hermann scoring against Liberty with three points and four rebounds.

Kalli Landolt grabbed five rebounds off the bench.

Weslee John and Claire Obert led Liberty with 14 points apiece while Riley Fessler also hit four 3-pointers to reach double figures with 12 points for the Lady Eagles.

During their 43-35 loss at Warrenton, Hale led Hermann with 11 points and three steals to go along with 10 points, nine rebounds and two assists from Lane.

Ash scored five of her eight points in the first quarter while Yates chipped in four points.

Andrea Van Booven rounded out the Lady Bearcat scoring at Warrenton with two points and four blocked shots.

Sitting at 4-6 ending the 2025 portion of their season, Hermann will open 2026 hosting Southern Boone’s Lady Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
