Spending three days of their spring break on the pitch last week, Kim McGee’s Owensville Dutchgirl soccer team looked to end the week on a winning note at Dutchmen Field with a victory against Dixon Lady Bulldogs after losses to Blair Oaks and Crocker by scores of 4-1 and 7-5 respectively.

Needing just nearly five minutes to get on the board last Thursday, Brooke Jahnsen’s goal for the Dutchgirls with 35:21 for the first half sparked a five-goal first half before three more shots found the back of the net in the second half helping Owensville to an 8-0 mercy-rule victory in their Highway 28 girls soccer showdown with Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs.

Almost seven minutes later, Jahnsen scored her second goal of the game at the 28:56 mark of the first half doubling Owensville’s lead to 2-0.

Nearly two minutes later, Cheyenne Nixon added her name to the score sheet with a goal at the 26:07 mark of the opening half for a 3-0 Dutchgirl lead.

Moving halfway to a mercy-rule victory, Nixon netted her second goal on a very windy afternoon of high school girls soccer with 12:27 until halftime.

With time winding down in the first half, Nixon completed her hat trick with 1:11 for the first half on her third goal assisted by Kabren Kelley.

Entering halftime with a 5-0 lead, Owensville now had the wind at their back to start the second half.

Just under two minutes into the second half, Avery Goodman added her name to the stat sheet scoring her first goal of the match making it a 6-0 Owensville lead with 38:11 remaining.

Three minutes later, Ashley Reed became the fourth different Dutchgirl to find the back of the net against Dixon with a goal at the 35:13 mark of the second half making it 7-0.

Jahnsen completed her hat trick and ended the match at the same time with her third goal at the 26:12 mark of the second half.

Now 2-4 on the young season, Owensville will also have three matches this week.

On the road Monday night at Pacific in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) action against the host Lady Indians, Owensville will stay in Franklin County today (Wednesday) facing St. Francis Borgia’s Lady Knights in Washington with a 5 p.m., start time for junior-varsity action with the varsity match to follow.

Owensville will then cap their three-match week inside the friendly confines of Dutchmen Field tomorrow (Thursday) hosting California’s Lady Pintos in varsity-only action at 5 p.m.
