An Owensville man is out of jail on a $50,000 surety bond, awaiting a scheduled May 31 arraignment on allegations he sexually assaulted and endangered an 11-year-old boy over a 15-month period from 2022 to 2023.
An “ongoing investigation” by Owensville Police resulted in felony charges being filed May 17 against Michael T. Schneider, 33, of the 100 block of West Fairview, was arrested last Wednesday and posted bond the same day, according to court records.
Schneider is charged in a Gasconade County warrant on allegations of first-degree child endangerment, a class D felony, and the unclassified felony sodomy or attempted sodomy in the first degree.
The victim was not a family member but was the child of a woman identified as Schneider’s fiance. Incidents of sexual assault reportedly occurred between January 2022 and February 2023. Owensville Police Det. Rob Green attended an April 25 interview with the boy.
Scott Griffith, interim Owensville police chief, noted Green’s efforts in the investigation, which was crucial to bringing charges, along with the work of the Children’s Advocacy Center, Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division, and the Gasconade County Prosecutor’s Office. Griffith thanked the agencies assisting Green and the OPD with the case in a press release.
