Hosting St. James’ Lady Tigers last Tuesday night for senior night, Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team looked to snap a four-game losing streak closing out the September portion of their schedule.
Leading 5-0 after two innings, Owensville scored five more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to help them post a 15-0 victory over St. James on senior night in four innings.
Owensville started the scoring against St. James when Shae Abernathy reached on an error and later scored on a Jayde Weirich two-RBI double that also drove in Dallas Miller after she walked with two outs.
Kabren Kelley kept the two-out rally going with a walk before senior Rylee Dare delivered a two-RBI single to right field scoring Lainey Moss and Josey Williamson giving the Dutchgirls a 4-0 lead after one inning.
Adding to their lead in the bottom of the second inning, Ryan Miller singled and later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Hannah Keeney bumping the Dutchgirl lead to 5-0 after two innings.
Abernathy pitched around a two-out walk in the top of the third inning giving her Dutchgirl offense a chance to add to their 5-0 lead.
Kelley and Dare both walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning.
Senior Myla Lauth the delivered a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Dare before Kelley stole home pushing the Dutchgirl lead to 7-0 and moving the lineup back up to the top of the order.
Ryan Miller then tripled and scored on a RBI single off the bat of Abernathy.
Keeney later walked and scored Owensville’s final run of the frame giving the orange and black a 10-0 lead over the visiting Lady Tigers.
Walking and scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning for Owensville was Ryan Miller, Abernathy, Weirich and Lauth.
Dare also tripled and scored on a bases-loaded walk from Abernathy.
Following Owensville’s 15-0 victory, seniors recognized Cameron Ryerson, Lauth, Moss, Dare and Keeney.
Dare and Ryan Miller each had two hits for the Dutchgirls while Abernathy and Ryan Miller also scored a team-high three runs.
Owensville also won the junior-varsity game 16-2.
Scoring two runs apiece for the JV Dutchgirls were Kiera Hamm, Brianna Bodine, Clara Malkowsky, Trinity Thomas, Kinley Troncin and Jill Blankenship.
Recording base hits for Owensville were Kendra Miller, Lilyana Rossi, Hamm, Malkowsky, Thomas and Blankenship.
Also scoring a run each for Owensville against St. James’ JV Lady Tigers included Adelyn McDonald, Hadlee Ketcherside, Rossi and Miller.
