Area residents looking for summer fun throughout the rest of this week need not look any further than the 79th Crawford County Fair in Cuba at Hood Park and the 64th Annual Gasconade County Threshers Association (GCTA) Steam Engine and Threshing Show at Rosebud Community Park located just off of U.S. Highway 50.
Starting with their parade yesterday, the Crawford County Fair will begin today (Wednesday) with the poultry and rabbit shows in the morning before evening highlights on night one at Cuba include the Crawford County Fair Queen and Children’s pageants along with bull riding, barrel racing and the horse and pony show.
Day two of the 79th Crawford County Fair in Cuba will open tomorrow (Thursday) morning with the Swine and Breeding Gilts shows before shows involving sheep, goats, bucket calves, heifers and steers take over the livestock arena that afternoon.
Evening highlights on night two include the Prince and Princess Contest on the Holiday Ranch Golf Club stage in addition to night two of bull riding and barrel racing.
Opening the third day of action at Cuba will be a rooster crowing contest where roosters and people alike get the chance to show off their crowing abilities.
Rounding out daytime activities on the third day of the 2026 Crawford County Fair will be a dog show, breeding cattle show and 4-H Family Fun Day.
Night time events on Friday in Cuba will include a cornhole tournament, super farmer contest, pedal tractor pull and the Xcaliber Truck and Tractor Pull in the arena.
Friday will also mark day one of the annual Gasconade County Threshers Association Steam Engine and Threshing Show.
Tractor games, a lawn mower fun pull and the traditionally popular hay bale toss will highlight the opening day of the festivities in Rosebud.
Some of the tractor games that will be played in Rosebud include the corn plant.
In the corn plant, five coffee cans are spaced apart with a cone at the end.
Each driver will have 10 washers and drive down one side of the track dropping one washer into each can.
They will then drive around the cone and drop one washer into the cone on the way back towards the start/finish line.
Penalties will be given for each missed washer (five seconds), running over the can (10 seconds) and running over or not going around the cone (15 seconds) with the fastest time winning.
Another game is the barrel race.
Drivers attempt to push the barrel with the front wheels of their tractor making it roll from the starting line to the finish line in the fastest time.
Basketball shoot action will see drivers get two basketballs with their time starting as the cross the starting line.
They will then attempt to shoot a ball into a barrel.
Once they make a basket, they will then drive their tractor across the finish line.
The winner will be the fastest time with at least one made basket.
Normally fans like fast races.
In Rosebud, they go with the opposite in the slow race.
Several tractor line up on the starting line and start at the same time with the last tractor to cross the finish line being the winner.
There is no riding the clutch and if the tractor stops during the race, that driver is out.
Draw Bar Tap is another game where a ball is placed on a cone. The driver will drive their tractor in reverse beginning at the start/finish line.
When approaching the cone with the ball on the top, the drive will use their draw bar to touch the ball without knocking the ball off and then go forward to cross the finish line and stop the clock.
Knocking the ball off will result in no time.
In Balloon Pop, balloons will be placed inside a marked area where the driver must drive their tractor over the balloons popping them with their tires.
When all balloons have been popped, the time stop for the driver when their tractor crosses the finish line.
During the game Chain Drop, a chain is hooked to your drawbar, the driver then drives their tractor to the marked square on the ground.
Then they have to drive back and forth while laying the entire chain within the square.
When the chain is within the square, the driver will release their chain and race to the finish line to stop the clock with the fastest time being declared the winner.
Potato Plant involves a line and three potatoes.
Driving to a mark off area, the tractor driver will then toss the three potatoes towards a line painted in the ground.
Each potato will be measured from their landing spot to the marked line.
The winner will be the driver with the closest combined measurement of all three potatoes.
Following the tractor games Friday night in Rosebud, there will be a lawn mower fun pull on the lower field while the traditionally popular bale toss will be held on the upper ball field in front of the grandstand.
Traditionally held on Saturday, GCTA officials decided to move the bale toss to Friday night in order to accommodate the return of the draft horse pull on Saturday night.
