Two juvenile males from Owensville have been arrested by Owensville police in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy and the burglary of a local business.
Lt. Scott Griffith, Owensville’s interim police chief, said one of the boys was taken to in a juvenile detention facility following his arrest on May 31. The second was transported Tuesday afternoon from Phelps Health, where he had been undergoing a psychiatric evaluation since his arrest Sunday, to juvenile detention in Boone County, according to Det. Rob Green.
Griffith said on Monday evening police were waiting for a detention facility bed to open up for the second boy. He had been released from police custody to his parents’ custody while they sought the medical evaluation. Green said a juvenile court order was issued Tuesday afternoon and a patrol officer was transporting the second boy to the detention center late in the afternoon.
“The investigation is still ongoing on an incident reported in which two juveniles allegedly physically assaulted and sexually assaulted (another teenage boy),” said Griffith. The incident reportedly took place inside the city limits of Owensville on May 25. Griffith said there was no indication of any assaults occurring on school grounds where the boys are underclassmen in high school. “There is no relation to school,” said Griffith of the reported assault.
Griffith said police interviewed and arrested the first boy on May 31. Both are also suspects in the burglary of the E-Vapor business in the Hometown Plaza off of Highway 19 near the intersection of Highway 28. That burglary took place in the days prior to the alleged sexual assault.
Griffith credited Green and patrolman Brenn Finley with solving the case. Their investigation is continuing, said Griffith. “I commend their quick action and investigation into the case to get this solved,” said Griffith. “And, they continue their investigation into this case.”
Griffith said both sets of parents “have been involved in a resolution” to this incident.
